Bingo! Yes masking tape! The instructor called this series: "resist-paintings"! He always said:
"No pencil layout lines", because he wanted us to get-away from the habit of "coloring within the lines"!
Actually it was he who showed us this technique, "if we must"....I was one of a few who used it allot!
Other techniques we called "scratch-paintings!" While the pigment is still damp, you scratch a line or
shapes with the chiseled handle of the brush.
