Description
Drunk from the rain, she staggered towards the street lamp, clinging to it.  The light seemed to dim in disapproval.  Tiny flickers were warnings.  I held her arm to steady her, but she burst like the clouds, tears streaming.

I didn't know what to do.

"He's not coming, b-back...no, no, no." She sobbed loudly as she slid down the lamp and sat on the curb soaking the rain in.

It was cold.

"NO, NO , NO...He ISN'T GOING to..."
"He's not dead...stop talking like that please...breathe...no seriously, calm...down," I was the one who needed calming.  My friend was a mess.  She hated rain, and there she was, drenched in her own raincloud, sobbing and screaming about my cousin.  She had driven to my house safely, but crashed into a pear tree in the field.  She had run out, and tried to climb it.

I worry about her.

She promised she was better.  She promised that he didn't matter anymore that he never had wanted to be with her.  I promised to tell her the truth.

And I lied.

She seems as unstable as I was as a toddler, and that's how long we've known each other.  We met at the pear tree.  She met my cousin at the pear tree.  But why she would climb it is beyond me.

I never asked.

I have always been quite a steady person, and she has been my opposite.  My inverse.  I don't know what to tell her.  Whatever I do, she does differently.

I'm scared for her.

She dented the front of her beautiful car, but he didn't care.  I had moved here a year ago when I turned 21.  She was 15.  My cousin was 19.  He had just lost a girlfriend and felt vulnerable.  She didn't care.  She loved him too much.  It got kind of crazy this year though.

I think I need to plant another pear tree.
