Description
As requested by Mr ~Tomdepl (I guess) long time ago, though I might have forgot something after that time. First it was a composition problems (I didn't want another Everfree or completely black... everything) and later hardware malfunction, but I'm painting stuff again in any free time. I'm still not sure about the normal straight trees. I guess there are some in Equestria hehe

I like this pic. alot. The dynamic in lighting is my favorite part. But when I see a lake/ river and cabin in the woods with the mountains I can't help but think of Bob Ross and smile.

Holy crap that background
The swirls in the night sky, the lighting on the water, the signs of life in the grass and trees in the mists. And the mountains. Those mountains. I just love it, especially since it's so layered. One element is stacked on top of another with midground trees on either side to sandwich it in and GAH IT'S SO PRETTY
I also just noticed there's a crow on that batpony's head. That's an awesome touch. And what I thought was a statue or fountain is actually... Steven Magnet? XD

The Music of the Night! Wow! In one image, you've suggested a backstory that reaches from the immediate (the fireflies are a wonderful touch) to the ethereal (the space beyond the Moon, to the Stars). This is a great, inspirational, illustration.

Oh my god. The stories you could find in this picture. The look of apprehension and hope on the pony's face as he stares at the moon. (Or Luna, depending on the symbolism)
He is wanting for something he once had. Maybe he once worked for Luna. Or maybe a mare he liked (loved) is working for Luna. But that brings up the question of why he doesn't just find what he is looking for.
And then I saw the wing. The wing that is torn and has a hole in it. Could he have been injured at some point? Is he stuck on the ground, living in a house with not but a pet crow to keep him company? The boat by the house helps credit my idea. Why would somebody who can fly use a boat? (This is discounting sea travel)
But he has a fully built house and a boat. That means he is making a living, or at least enough to buy/build his own home, which would imply he has been here a while.
But then there is the candlelit table with food and drink. Candle lit dinner (or breakfast, depending on the habits of this kind of pony) and a look of want. Maybe he isn't wanting for something he doesn't have. Maybe hie is just waiting for a special somebody to come home. Somebody either working for Luna, or in her security. Somebody who may have been away for a long while, and is being waited for by their husband.
So many tales in this picture. It is glorious.

This is truly beautiful. And I have been to this place. It is in the hills of North Carolina, a little inlet where Nell's cabin used to set. I have been there, alone, deep in the night with the moon shining on the water. No bat ponies though. That would have been truly... just right.

Even if I don't know who this lovely bat-pegasus I can't help but admire his demeanor and the great feeling of awe he projects. Seems to be an agreeable and humble enough, Despite looking strong and (relatively) young I have to wonder because of his tattered wings. Maybe this is one of Luna's retired guards? The raven makes for a great animal companion, and it looks rather curious too, even if that's only fleeting.
The background and all the scenery is gorgeous. Terrific mountains and deep star-filled sky, with the lovely moon and a sharp silhouette of Princess Luna and her detail out for a nighttime flight. (Hey, even the little frog seems to be watching.) The grove in the distance adds a sense of distance to the mist covered field, and then the close up stuff looks gorgeous in color, bringing the main characters right to the front. The cottage looks very cozy, and I like that he keeps a canoe handy. The tea table and single candle look terrific, very sweet on this firefly filled summer night. What a lovely night to have tea with Steven, and I'm sure he'll join his friend across the river as soon as the flyby is complete.
