It was really interesting researching and designing this rugged snake theme armored troll adventurer.
I've been learning this rough comic book style recently and finding I quite enjoy it.

Thanks so much! I wanted her to have a meaty warcraft style axe instead of say a sword or spear. It's really the lines doing all the work in place of crazy realistic detail and texture. It was really cool trying to find places for the snake motif theme and when the axe started to look like it could be a metal worked snake, that was the icing on the cake. ^^

I really dig it! If she were buff she'd be my dream lady XD I love the serpent motif. Especially that helmet. It's pretty darn snazzy!

Funny you say that. She was initially bulky, but a went for more of a slim athletic form to kind of fit the snake thinness and agility. Maybe next time I'll totally go the opposite way. ^^ I like the helmet too. I could just imagine seeing that silhouette alone charging would make her very intimidating. I'm finding the more I think about and understand an idea the more things begin to fit together, make sense and possibly look really freaking cool.

Yeaah man. I mean, if you wanted to keep that whole snake motif then what better way to honor it then with a buff lady? Since snakes are just one big muscle. They aren't like.. body builder buff. Since that tends to be a bit more clunky. But maybe like gymnast or marital artist body type. A really controlled amd precise looking muscle definition. A buff lady that's more blocky would definitely fit the weapon you chose better. But I mean, she's a troll so being strong is kind of a base for them so I'm not sure it super matters. Plus, I love battle axes. So there's no complaints on my end from that.

Yeah now that you say that, it makes a lot of sense plus scrawny characters can't carry all that dungeon loot. I think I've just be brained washed with the image of The Hunger Games Johanna Mason wielding an axe. Weird how things like that creep up and shape your design.

Yeah man. The gotta be buff if you wanna leave with that good treasure! Gold is heavy..

And I mean the type of axe Johanna uses would tottally fit the body type you made. That type of axe appears to be made of a Titanium-coated 420J2 stainless steel head. Which is pretty light. It's a type of survival axe as opposed to the axe you drew which would probably made from some sort of iron (maybe wrought iron) or perhaps a fantasy metal? But the fact is there's waaay more metal there than Johnana has. That being said, this lady is a troll and they're notoriously strong. And well, Johnana is neither of those things. XD

Sorry for the long blurb.

For sure. You start factoring in these things and your designs take a complete turn.
I didn't even think about the axe's material. I thought wood haft and large sharp metal, ok moving on. ^^
Plus I think of weapons as disposable. She would just drop the axe for something better or until it breaks.
I agree in fantasy as an artist you also have to leave room for the fantastical which is a huge area that alters the design choices again.
It's a never ending battle that we plunge into everyday, but we do so because we love it.

Heheh. Yeah. Fantasy is great for just having fun with designs. That being said, there's nothing wrong with what you drew. I don't wnst you to feel like I'm being insulting or anything. I just really enjoy chatting about designs. Heh. Few people humor me as much as you have. So I get excited and just kinda keep going.

I totally agree. I caught the design bug when I entered cubebrush's ARTWAR last year and
found that coming up with a design and working through variations and getting feedback
to alter those decisions became intoxicating and even more fun than actually making the artwork.
We so rarely get to hear the reasons behind an artist's design choices which tends
to be the most interesting part of an artwork. As we get to see their choices on their
creative journey and under a different light, what their choices could have possibly led to.
At the end of the day we hone our skills as artists to help mold our dreams and ideas and that is always exciting.
