Description
In the hospital's VIP waiting room sat Dr. Jekyll, one of England's greatest minds. He was an older gentleman, handsome, rugged, but he had a tired look on his face. Exhausted even. He almost looked... afraid. He even jumped when the door opened, but calmed down when he saw it was just a man. A Gothically handsome man, but handsome all the same.
"Hello, Dr. Jekyll," Dr. Tepes greeted.
"Sir Tepes, it is an honor," Dr. Jekyll said as he stood up and held out his hand.
"I have never been knighted, doctor. No reason to call me sir," Vlad said as he shook the man's hand.
"Yes. Apologies, doctor."
"Do not take offense to this, but I find it perplexing as to why one of England's finest minds would travel all the way to Amercia to see me."
"Dr. Tepes, you underestimate your own fame, my good sir. You're considered one of the greatest minds in the world, the foremost expert in hematology, and one of the few doctors to have ever bested cancer."
"The method is far from perfected, Dr. Jekyll. However, I highly doubt you came me to speak of my accomplishments," Vlad said with a raised eyebrow.
Henry looked down sadly. "May I sit, sir?"
"By all means." The two took their seats across from each other.
"I... committed a grievous sin, Dr. Tepes."
"I may donate to the church, but this is no confessional, Dr. Jekyll."
"It is not the forgiveness of God I need at this moment. I need one of the greatest doctors to have ever lived." Jekyll took out a notebook and handed it to Vlad.
The vampire read through the notes, his brow furrowing as he read.
"Your expression speaks volumes, doctor."
"A formula to all but divide the good and evil in humans. There are benefits, I admit, but this is still a dangerous concoction."
"I understand. God, do I understand that now."
"Now," Vlad asked with a raised eyebrow. He then discreetly sniffed the air around Henry, specifically his blood. "You. You used yourself as a test subject."
Henry looked up. "You can tell?"
"I have my ways, doctor. Now, help me understand why."
Henry looked down again. "I had no choice. the hospital I was employed under would not allow for testing. I was fine with anything: volunteers, animals, death row prisoners; but none was allowed. I HAD to know if my formula worked."
"So you used yourself as Patient Zero."
"Yes. . . And the formula was successful. I changed, Dr. Tepes. I became younger, stronger, but also darker. I became cruel. Evil. Vicious. I... HE took a life. He's a murderer, Dr. Tepes!"
"Are you sure you should be telling me this, Dr. Jekyll. We are not doctor and patient. I have no obligation to adhere to doctor-patient confidentiality."
"I understand that. Honestly, I deserve to be punished for my sins. For HIS sins. But I fear something, doctor. I fear vanishing within my own body."
"What?"
"I've been transforming without the formula. Changing against my own will. Hyde is trying to take full control, and I fear I cannot stop him. Not without the needed chemicals."
Vlad read through more pages of the journal before finding the needed page near the end. "Mm, these are quite rare chemicals, Dr. Jekyll."
"And there in lies the situation, Dr. Tepes. I've been asking, nay, BEGGING for the chemicals. Every day they said they would come, but STILL they did not come! I'm am desperate. I am too dangerous to be left as I am. I beg of you, doctor. Help me," Henry pleaded with tears in his eyes.
Vlad looked back down down at the notes. "Don't take offense to this, Dr. Jekyll, but my fame and influence far exceeds yours. I can have these chemicals delivered to the hospital in a manner of hours. A day at most."
Henry looked up at Vlad. "I take no offense at all, Dr. Tepes. In fact, your fame is exactly WHY I came to you for aid. None of my colleagues in England were willing to assist me. I needed someone else to help me. I used quite a bit of my own wealth to reach you. I beg for your aid, sir," Henry said as he bowed his head.
Vlad sighed as he looked at Henry. "Dr. Jekyll, if I do this, you will need to repay me. Repay me in a way no monetary amount could possibly fulfill."
"Anything, sir."
Vlad stared at Henry. "Do you have anyone close to you?"
Henry looked up. "Sir?"
"Anyone who would miss you in England?"
The gentleman looked down. "In one month's time... I am to be wed. To the love of my life, Lisa Carew. I did not want her to see Hyde even in her nightmares."
"Is she willing to leave England for America? Travel from London all the way here to Massachusetts?"
Henry thought about it. "I... would rather not force her to make such a choice, but if I had to choose... yes. I've never met a more loyal woman than she. She would travel to the ends of the Earth if I was at her side."
"Very well, because from now on, you work for me."
"What?"
"As I said, you can never pay me back for this with money. As such, you will be one of my hospital's doctors."
"B-But Dr. Tepes, you know what I am capable of."
"It's BECAUSE I know that I wish to employ you, Dr. Jekyll."
"Pardon?"
"I'm considered one of the greatest doctors in the world, but even I have limitations. Chemistry based science is something I only have a bare minimum expertise in, but you're practically a genius in the field. I could use such a talent in my hospital."
Henry began to tear up before he bowed once more. "I swear I will not disappoint you, Dr. Tepes."
"Mm." Vlad stood up and took out his phone. "I'll make the call now."
"Thank you, sir. Thank you," Henry said as he began to cry. Then, his eyes popped open as he felt a pulse ring through his body, a terrible pain shooting through him. "Oh, God."
