Description
"Oh, very good," interrupted Snape, his lip curling. "Yes, it is easy to see that nearly six years of magical education have not been wasted on you, Potter. 'Ghosts are transparent.'" --Severus Snape, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince--This took 2 days to complete because I was kinda busy with National Service preps. I never really took to Snape until the final book. Nevertheless, this was really fun to do!
Done with reference material using 6H, HB, 2B, 4B, and 8B pencils in my sketchbook.

One of my fav characters in Harry Potter, so many layers and so hard to interpret. Great job on his portrait!

Wonderful! Great likeness, and I love the expression--very intense eyes! I agree that the uniformity of the darkness in the hair gives it a bit of a flat look, but I don't think you need to give up using the 8B--simply use it a bit more judiciously, and retain a few more highlights and medium-toned areas, to give it more depth. When drawing hair I like to look at the reference and "unfocus" my eyes for a moment, and really see the different tones in the mass of hair--light, medium and dark tones. Then I try to recreate that on the drawing--it helps not only to contour the hair, but also the head under the hair! Give that a try sometime with really dark hair, and see what sort of results it give you! The face has a marvelous depth, though--no problems there!

XD Thanks, Ana! I initially didn't really like his character, but it all changed when I read the final book. I actually feel sorry for the guy... DX

Aww... you should! It's not as funny as the previous books, but it gives a definite sense of closure to the series.

Really nice, but you shouldn't use 8B pencil. It's too soft for the hair-they look a bit flat and ... "sponged" - sorry, I don't know what word would be good to tell what I exactly have on mind (here at my country we'd say it's "boring" or something) - I mean they look a bit like black sooted stain on the paper.Better use 3B (or even lower) and press it hard on the paper (it won't be so soft looking then) But I love how you made his eyes - you're really good at drawing them

Turned out really well but quick question: Were you working flat on a table? the face seems a little elongated. Still though, really nice shading.

I always did my portraits on a flat table... does that cause them to be elongated? I haven't noticed in my drawings. >.<
