This looks a lot like it was inspired by Inkscribble's Merfolk dollmaker.

My, you're right. Even if mine looks quite crappy beside those :'D
Tho, it wasn't actually inspired by them, as I didn't know about them, until right now.
It was probably indirectly inspired, as I had a reference, which might be inspired by them.
Sadly that ref is a dead link now :/

I am really impressed by all tattoo and emblements on mermaid body. Also how slender her body looks. you made nice sunny shine on water, but a picture is a bit too sketchy and need mkore shadows and underwater effects

Some constructive criticism: since there is a great amount of sunlight shining through the water, maybe some shading on the mermaid and the fish would make the sunlight more obvious. The mermaids eye is a bit too far off on the side if the head. The rock has lots of nice shading on it, but lack the texture of a rock. Also the black blob confuses me. What is that?Β
Hope this helps!

thank you very much for your interest in my work!
critic helps me improving the most ~
I'm not really happy with the rock as well
I tried a bit around, but got no better result.
I really don't know at all how to texture, pattern and shape a rock >.<'
the black something was supposed to be a blurred hole.
I'll try to improve at textures (at all ._. I'm so bad with them. If you have some useful advices or learning-sources, I'll be very thankful)
for sure, I'll try to improve the other points as well!
Thank you very much!!

Whoah, this is very pretty!! The pose is beautiful, and so are the details and lighting in the water! The bubbles look so amazing with the lighting and the details in the long tail are stunning! Great work!

Ohh, very pretty! I wanted to get into drawing mermaids several months ago but I was too busy with school and I sort of forgot. I want to try drawing them again after I get done with a couple projects.
Lots of nice detail and shading in this. The sunlight looks well done, along with that rock. There's a lot of shading in that rock. But its nice how everything is somewhat subtle but not super boring.
Like that jelly is clear, but you can still see its a bubble. (Haha, words are weird) And the glowy flowers, and bubbles, the shading on the mermaid's fins. Also the gradation of color on her. The pattern looks really complicated and pretty too.
Later I also noticed the little school of fishies and how interesting the bigger fish look. This is a really nice piece with a gentle flow of movement.
I can see a bunch of detail and work went into this because everywhere you look, you can look closer and find something new! Maybe next time when doing the sun's rays you could try fading the rays into the water slowly so the sun is like a glow stretching to the sea. The only thing I really noticed that could be tweaked besides that is that two larger fish and that uh.. crab thingie (I forget their names xD) could have some gentle shading. They just look a little bit flatter than the other features, but its not really noticable. They look like they belong there, with their cute little eyes.

I'm stunned you took so much effort in this comment!~
thank you!!
I'm more than glad you like what I do!
all the positive critic and copliment makes me so happy and, yeah, even a bit shy <3
It's wonderful to hear, you noticed so many details, it means, you looked more than one second!
thanks, as well, for the improvement-critic! It helps alot!!
I'll try to fade the light next time^^ need to play around with that a bit. never tried that before~
and if I start shading, I'll do complete shading, as from now~
I watched you, perhaps we could chat a bit, from time to time? ~
(LOTR 4ever! btw )
have a great time!!
thank you so much again!!

I was actually kind of offline too (on vacation, anyway ) and it was like 10, which is when I'm apparently most awake. xD So I was looking at it like 'asdfhjkl detaaaail' and wow there was a lot
. I try to give in depth comments because I know how good they are for artist.
In art class its easy to get some constructive critics because its part of the class but its kind of harder on the internet, ya'know? I'm glad I made you happy.
And I had to zoom in really far to read those tiny words. stop being cruel to my contacts Its okay, I'm just a random Figwit, no need to be shy. Even though I have a tendency yell random stuff sometimes. Its my Italian blood, I'm telling you.
Yeah, but I mostly do pretty flat traditional art b/c even when I had my tablet's stylus I was too lazy to find some good art programs that actually worked on it ( I'm not lazy, just American pfft..) and just doing some nice flat pics takesΒ a lot of timeΒ so when I notice all these little things in digital artΒ its like frick.. that takes effort!
And I wouldn't mind chatting. (And yes, LotR forever! December is pretty much my month, first comes my birthday, then the Hobbit, then random holiday madness, then Christmas, and then New Years.Yayyy)
Β Stay awesome and no problem! ^^

This is a very detailed piece of work! I think I like the way you drew the tattoos/markings the best. The tail is also amazing. How did you draw this? Keep drawing and you'll never stop improving!

Thank you so much!
I'm happy you like it
I'm actually not sure how to answer your question >.<
I made the tail, starting with a draft of the middle line to figure out the movement-form I want to get.
after I was statisfied with that form, I sketched two lines around that middleline, starting from the body.
I knew, they need to ellapse slowly, since it's a long tail.
As I was done, I started to outline, of course. In this picture I used linework.
I took great effort into the outline, since that makes the colouring easier.
So, I selected the tail, once my outlines were done, and and drew the bodynearest color half the way down and the body farest color into whats left.
Last step was blurring the colours into each other~
Yeah, that's it^^ that's all i could tell about how I made it >.<'
I hope it was, what you wanted to know :3
have a great day~
