why is this featured?

I'd say this is featured not because her good looks, but because this is a well composed photography. Her pose makes for an interesting view and the lighting in the background is brilliant, giving her a lovely glow. At the same time it doesn't take away the vibrance of the colors.
That's all I've got to say about that.

Well. There are a million similar photos and a million similar pieces of artwork. It's hard to do something completely original and unseen in this day and age, so why nitpick about it and not just try to appreciate the individual pieces or just let them be altogether?Β

The "better" things, as you put it, don't get featured is because the right person/people haven't seen them, that's all there is to it I'd say. I agree with you wholeheartedly that there are a bunch of awesome pieces of art out there that should be featured but never is! But that is, as I said, just because the right person haven't seen them and thus it hasn't happened.
Hopefully they will be seen eventually and get the feature they deserve, in the meantime I'll just enjoy those who did get featured and try to see why they did
