Have you tried cropping out the space on the right and putting the eye at the top right third crossing?

I tried a lot of diff looks, but by croping the right it doesn't give
the bird any space to move forwards. Looks awkward.

Nicko, I took this shot in New Mexico. We don't have this bird
in MN. I'll bet you're going to see a ton of new birds in Fla.

yep ... we both posted pics of males, the female has a more upturned bill. You had a closer shot then me and have far more detail ... they are definitely cool birds to photograph ... looked like you had a wonderful trip by the way !
