its a terrible shame they don't let the women dress in white like that, would be much nicer than black in the desert heat.

Depends where and which culture, you won't ever see that outdoors in Saudi, the UAE etc. Not unless she intends to be beaten.
Pathetic really. I've seen brilliant artwork of how Emirate women dressed - beautiful fabrics of all colours and patterns, but Sheik Zayed wanted to be all "look at me I'm as serious a muslim as a Saudi" and decreed the black abayas and hijab etc. He may have done a lot of great things, but being a complete douche and putting his foot down on something as basic and inconsequential as the colour of ladies clothing clearly wasn't one of his finer moves.

I have been to Saudi Arabia and women dress in bright colors, white, black. Colors they like but not very shockingly bright. The only condition is to cover your body and your modesty. You can do that with a shawl, a hijab, abaya. Anything the woman likes. If she is beaten for that. It is inhumane and that is not what my religion teaches. Muslim men beat women not because they are Muslim, but because they are men. If there are savage Muslims, they are also very generous Muslims. Islam is perfect. But don't judge a religion by it's follower. Go to the book.
I do understand what you say. But the Muslim woman's beauty is her covering. Her modesty. Muslim women are recognized for their skill, intellect and talent. She is proud of her Islam and her hijab is her identity.
If she is beaten, it doesn't mean the religion is to be held accountable for it.
I will tell you one thing. Because of one woman, four men will go to hell. One being her father, her brother, her husband and her son if they didn't try to bring her to the right path. Please see, not by coercion and beating but by peaceful opinion forming. Because woman if wants to, can be the worst being and if she wants to, can be the best and change many lives.
I am a Muslim. I hope I was able to make it clear what I tried to say.

That isn't a very nice thing to say. If you don't accept it, alright. No need to disrespect my faith.
If I offended you, I am sorry.

just saying it like it is, that was nonsense.
Ask an Afghan woman if she likes the fear of death and dismemberment for not wearing a burqa under the Taliban, or a Sudanese woman if she likes being beaten for wearing pants - even under an abaya, or to the home of Islam, Saudi Arabia - if women like being denigrated so much they aren't allowed to go where they want or even drive a car - because they are too simple to know how according to men
hell in the UAE women can drive, but only an automatic, because a manual gearbox is considered to difficult.
losers

Why don't you just ask me what it feels to wear a hijab?

why would i need to do that?
try think of it from an outsiders point of view?
If anyone tried to force my mother, sister, wife and daughter to conform to that dress code - much less any dress code beyond their choosing I'd be disgusted.
And probably be after their head I suppose, no man should dictate what a civillian wears within reason. There are matters of public decency and then there are matters of belief, ones belief should not dictate anothers life.
I've seen in many countries what happens to muslim women and girls when they decide to not wear what their culture and family dictate.
Or if they should choose to not follow islam or love a non-muslim man and end up dead at the hands of their fathers, brothers etc. because somehow 'their' honour has been disgraced...
Not to mention the scriptural writings that denigrate women, especially when much of it written or quoted by a man who convinced people he was a prophet and had sex with a child he married... seriously, who'd join that club? If Mohammed was alive today he'd be locked up

One more word against my Prophet. Not a word more. Do you understand? When you do not understand something you should keep your mouth shut about it. You shall regret deeply what you said. And you will. Shame on you.

What? It's a historical fact he was a paedophile? He married Aisha at the age of 8 and consumated the marriage when she was 9 - it is claimed she had begun her menses at 9 so was therefore a women... but a 9 year old girl is still a 9 year old girl and tiny. We has in his mid 50's I believe. I don't understand how you could have respect for a man like that in this day and age when such a crime would have you imprisoned for many, many years - and not to mention much psychological evaluation.
Hardly someone to tell your sons to look up to wouldn't you say?

no anger or hatred here, just bewilderment. It's 2011... question everything. If your faith is real and what you have faith in is true, you'll win. But you can't just blindly accept. Think about the man, would you want him leading thousands of impressionable minds still?
