Description
Having tired of the superunknown, the wandering shaman came upon theyoung sadface Ari,...not seeking the way, but asking of a new way.
Wary of the ancient shaman’s way of speaking in riddles, Ari directed the
old wiseman to a path in the distance, but advised the shaman that it most
likely was not the way he sought since it was a well traveled road.
The old shaman nodded his gratitude to the young sadface, then turned slowly
and began walking in the direction of the well worn trail. As he disappeared
into the veil of mist blanketing the path Ari could hear the old wiseman’s final
words drifting back to him,...
‘Perhaps,...it is not always a new path that we seek,...
but a new way to walk it.’
----------
yeah yeah yeah. i made that up. a bit lame and corny. whateva.
so anyway,...
when i first came to DA, i was pretty pleased to see how many anthro
artists infested this place. why? well, because, i was a bit of a anthro
artist myself,...among other things.
so, i’d go around trying to hook up with these other anthro types and they’d
look at me and say things like,...’miff miff, keke, yip yip, XD XD.’
and i’d like be,...’wtf did you just say?’
needless to say i was pretty much cast out of the anthro clics. *shrug*
i still dig ‘em though.
however, the one anthro hellion that would ALWAYS give me the time of day
was/is a hard rocker called ’terriblekim’.
boy. can she ever RANT! lol.
okokokok. i’m rambling a bit too much,...
so, the sadface Ari is a creation of the mega talented terriblekim that she
submitted to her account heavyteeth and gave an open invitation for anyone
to color.
what can i say? i couldn’t resist!!!
uh oh.
almost quitting time!
you guys be cool!

O man, another DD? You are just insane with this stuff! Sorry I've been a little vacant on the comments, been trying to catch up though. I did my homework and checked out TK's pic, and you really took this such a long way. Incorporated a mini story to go along with it too, which I liked a lot. That really made the picture worth so much more. All your texture is fabulous, I'm especially fond of all the hair and fur you incorporated, and the grasses/mushrooms are a great foresty touch. Hey, that shaman dude looks familiar...
And I know what you mean about the whole anthro thing. I started out with a love for animalized beings, Aster being "the character" I had, but I never really knew it was considered "anthro". I got on DA thinking there were some people who did the same stuff, but quickly realized that it was mostly people who were interested in being cute and popular and whatnot. I love anthro but I hate the furry reputation, and I'm so glad that there are folks around like you who can take anthro a step out of the norm (and props to TK for not going with the clique).

Well, there's really not much advanced critique to be made here....I could say smt about the anatomy, but since it's anthro, it may as well be as exaggerated as u like, so... I LOVE the tectures though! What technique did u use? Was it hand made or not? Well done man!
Ooo, one thing that might help, is that u could try blurring the surroundings a bit, so as to emphasize attention to your main theme, cause all the colours are so close to each other it could possibly get a bit comfusing... Hope it helps!

Excellent stuff, it highlights the fact that he human eye builds reality and movement out of textured expressive art so much better than out of smooth flat effemeral renderings ... the tiny flecks of white spots show your mastery. Well done. I'd love to see you do a whole abstract picture of just wild hair as if it was growing of the wall ... you've got expression in you hand work you may as well play some games on poeples eyes/brains with it ...
Keep up the great work!

Awesome work, I LOOOVE your painting style. It's very hectic but at the same time quite together, y'know? Anyway.
Looks great, a bit like a children's book illustration. From one of the really good books, where kids get them and then just stare at the pictures for hours.
And hey! You got a DD. Go you!

THe textures are really good as always.
The background is a great compliment to the original drawing (which is very cool, props to *terriblekim ) It's so colourful and detailed. Storybook material indeed!

‘Perhaps,...it is not always a new path that we seek,...
but a new way to walk it.’
Awww, it's really not that cheesy. When I'm all thoughtful and phyliosified and no I can't spell; but I feed on quotes like that. They really engage the old gray goo.
Anyhow, the picture! I'm really liking the style I see here, lots of what I'd call penciled detail; it's a bit rough, but it gives the picture all the more character.
Perhaps it's just the tone of the background, but my focus is almost torn - the background is beautiful (great work with the dots) and it almost matches the tones used in Ari.. yet, not so much. Everything sort of blends artfully together. Well done.

Remind me not to walk down that path, I shall remember your picture In my mad dreams of mouths and teeth... today i have just been warned off a new path like that and have to go back to seeking a new way of walking the old one..good story and use of present awareness and colour.

oh my god, you deserve a contract and a whole ton of money from some book publisher somewhere just on the strength of this drawing alone, if you don't already have it. And finally someone who does anthro some justice with real media... this just blows me away, how you do that with what I'm guessing is watercolour I'll never know, heck, I could go at it all my life and never get anywhere near this spontenaeity. Christ, I'm that damn excited I could use the 'f' word. The colours are just gorgeous, the way you've used the opaque whie for smoke is genius, and even without the snippet of story it could keep a mind occupied for ages thinking about what is going on. The shaman's face is just amazingly original.
You know something, usually when people put advanced crit on their work, I try and find something, but for the first time ever, I can't. Not a single thing. It's perfect...
