I got a call from my editors in the X-Men office at Marvel about a month ago to do some design work for some new Sentinels. for the last 30 or so years the Sentinels have had the same general design so Marvel wanted to spruce them up for the new Civil War story line going on this Summer. They didn't give me any other guidelines except to make them each look original and bad-ass. There are 5 all together named Warmachine, Crazytrain, Ogre, Shrapnel, and Megaton. Salvador Larroca designed Warmachine and Crazytrain so I was charged with doing the final 3. I tried to make them characteristic with their name and give them the ominous feel I think a Sentinel should have. Inspiration came from all over the place including Gundam, Transformers, Evangelion, Big O, Thundercats, and the 5th Element. I should also mention that these have all already been approved and are currently being drawn by Marvel artists for this Summer's comics. Not to diss on your designs, but the classic design suits me just fine. It's functional and practical and doesn't need to be changed, IMO

About TIME they changed! I'm really sick of sentinels, but if they all looked like yours, I could definitely put up with them. Especially they're ALWAYS reappearing everywhere.... ooh! Cassandra Nova brings back some from the dead! And ooh! There were more being secretly built! And ooh! They spontenously appear when you say their name three times! (well, maybe not that...) I really like the first one... it's really badass.

Very nice designs, though unlesss coloured in classic colours they don't evoke "Sentinel" to me at all.

Nice redesign! I like how you integrated the facial features of the originals, like the mouth, to keep them looking like Sentinels and not just robots. That's really awesome.

I absolutely *LOVE* these. (especially the middle one, I know it's kinda close to the 'normal' design, but I really like it). The first one is really frightening too! Definately much more scary than the normal sentinels. I hope they choose these!

I like the last two a lot. not that I don't like the first one but the last two seem more like the next stage of the sentinel's, where as the first one seems like he was just produced to instill fear. then again maybe I'm being too literal. they are really friggin cool!

I like these designs, theyre very different and yet still retain a familiar sentinel feel.
Im still a fan of the simplicity of the old design though, ya gotta think if the government was really going to build a giant robot, they probably would design it based on its function rather then if it looked cool or not.
Like I said I still lke these deisgns, thats just my two cense on the concept.

I love how you incorporated some Transformer lines and yet still kept the overall design of the sentinel head as the original. Very nice. I was hoping they'd get out of the 50's style iron man design before I died.

I'm gonna cast a vote, provided you were even asking for one, on the middle one. Definately the best looking out of the three designs, sleek and more human like. Good work all around, though you don't ned one more guy singing your praises I'm sure, you do great work.

the first kinda looks like it belongs in a Godzilla flick
and the second looks like a Gundam or a Transformer.
the bulky design gives the X-Men feel to it (Apocolypse?)

they look awsome... something i'd see in the newer Transformer issues rather than X-Men... (remind me somehow of the Quintessons, if they're named that)... but they look very good just the same...

These are so freaken cool, and I can see the influence of the shows you were talking about. The first one reminds me the style of robots Mc Farland toys does(like Mech-Spawn line). The second one so screams Transformers, and third one reminds of the green bulky zeon gundams from the first series.
*Warning: Incoming Nagging*They are great and all but I think they might have a little too much anime-influence in them. This is just a suggestion, but how about more of a vehical look for future designs, or add something that looks like a detachable prision to hold mutants in till they take them to the villian's fortress.

Awesome. Now those are Sentinels! They also look like they wouldn't be so out of place in the Mega Man X or Mega Man Zero universe, if you made them more anthropomorphic. What's the scale? Are we talking about the classic Sentinel size, Master Mold's gigantic size, or Nimrod's more human-sized appearance? Wish there was something like Colossus (or Wolverine, haha) next to them to provide scale.

They look sweet. But the way they are standing makes them look a little too human. I always like that the the visual appearance of the old ones lacked personalities. But I'm not an appropriate critic

I love the first one, the one obviously borrowed from The BIG O...... Though i doubt the design is too close to use, but it will be cool if they use all of them and have them be more specialised against what type of mutant they fight best against.

i could see the second and third ones as sentinals but the first is just... im not entirely sure but it just doesnt feel right... mabey a little too futureistic or might be a little too anime like

wow mark i've always wondered why they kept with the same lame ass design for the sentinal, they were cool the first time i saw them but after a while they just looked like big tin men and not too menacing. These designs are killer and i love them all, the first one is a little out of the ordinary but i think that's what makes it work, it's so different yet has the same essence ya know? Great lines. Hopefully you don't have to go through any proofs and they approve these on the spot!

Always a huge fan of your work and this is no exception! S'bout time Marvel spruced up the most over-used design and story element in the X-Books! And, damn, what a team to do the job! Can't wait to see them in action!
