I got a call from my editors in the X-Men office at Marvel about a month ago to do some design work for some new Sentinels. for the last 30 or so years the Sentinels have had the same general design so Marvel wanted to spruce them up for the new Civil War story line going on this Summer. They didn't give me any other guidelines except to make them each look original and bad-ass. There are 5 all together named Warmachine, Crazytrain, Ogre, Shrapnel, and Megaton. Salvador Larroca designed Warmachine and Crazytrain so I was charged with doing the final 3. I tried to make them characteristic with their name and give them the ominous feel I think a Sentinel should have. Inspiration came from all over the place including Gundam, Transformers, Evangelion, Big O, Thundercats, and the 5th Element. I should also mention that these have all already been approved and are currently being drawn by Marvel artists for this Summer's comics. These are the new Sentinels? My goodness. I never been so giddy about giant robot thingies before. They really look so amazing...and scary. Muchos love! Can't wait to see them in action

WoW man their design is awesome. I can make out the Gundam, Big O, and Transformer traits in their design. Now that is freaking awesome. It's great that you get to design things like this for a comic book company.
I am curious though as to how did you start off with their concepts, or rather that is the building blocks for theri construction. Like with a human you would use a sphere, cylender and a line. SO how would you go about making
the design for these Sentinels?

The Gundam and 5th Element parts are definitly there. Yay for alien dog men roboticized. But yeah, the center one I think is a winner of a design - kinda maintaining the old design (the face ... thing.. they have going on) while still incorperating your new ideas. Yep!

Love the desings but just not for X-men or the marvel universe. Can you imagine this things walking en a street pretending to be for mantaining security? I wouldn't feel safe with that thing around, human or mutant. Although the idea of gundam-like sentinels wasn't yours you just did your job and designed them. So in that case, great job!!!

*__* wow, these drawings are so amazing. They have such depth, perspective and control in the linework. Every line looks so smooth and definite *_*. I'm not a huge fan of mechs usually, but the shear skill that this image has is so impressive that I gotta fav it XD XD

Ok. That's it. in MY book you are officially insane! LOL Insanely good that is! My good GOSH! Any chance whatsoever that you saved your progress and possibly thinking behind it and posted it up as a tutorial of some kind? I mean i can kinda understand how you MIGHT go about coming up with a new design based on other characters and previous designs but it would still be noce to see your thinking. Good stuff man!

You might remember the Nimrod sentinel from Days of Future Past, any thoughts on how you would vary his design (considering he looked nothing like current sentinels)?

Good designs but the original looks more convievable, and more pracitcal. These designs are way to transformer.
