I got a call from my editors in the X-Men office at Marvel about a month ago to do some design work for some new Sentinels. for the last 30 or so years the Sentinels have had the same general design so Marvel wanted to spruce them up for the new Civil War story line going on this Summer. They didn't give me any other guidelines except to make them each look original and bad-ass. There are 5 all together named Warmachine, Crazytrain, Ogre, Shrapnel, and Megaton. Salvador Larroca designed Warmachine and Crazytrain so I was charged with doing the final 3. I tried to make them characteristic with their name and give them the ominous feel I think a Sentinel should have. Inspiration came from all over the place including Gundam, Transformers, Evangelion, Big O, Thundercats, and the 5th Element. I should also mention that these have all already been approved and are currently being drawn by Marvel artists for this Summer's comics. neat, I'm assuming the tubes sticking otu all over the last 2 are some sort of heat sync device, and I guess the fins are the heat sync on the first?

'bout time they updated the designs, and it is awesome that they picked you to do it!
I assume they are in order, left to right? Ogre reminds me a bit too much of Onslaught, but Shrapnel and Megaton are swee-heet!
I have to agree with Nuke-Mayhem, though, they are a bit too anime... scale would help put them in context, but more of an easily transformed vehicle/robot blend would have been cool - like the Exo-Squad toys that turned into vehicles as well

Very impressive. I must say though... That one on the far right has rockets sticking out of his butt.

FIrst off, gorgeous designs, they're big, mean, and look like they can seriously do some damage, a big problem with mechs. is making them look functional with all that gear, and I think you pulled it off nicely. On the first sentine-I'm not so crazy about the footwear, I get this wizard of oz, skipping down the yellow brick road with sora kind of feel, Maybe turning the design upsidedown for the feet, give them a cloven kind of feel? Just throwing out suggestions. WHich (since your, well, amazing, you don't have to take in the slightest) Again, cool designs, looking forward to see where these go or what the big wigs have to say about them. -Red

Those are pretty bad ass. I can definatly tell the Big O and Gundam influence. Especially the arms and legs. Its nice that you get the same general design for the heads as well.

Hmmm gotta say, as a HUGE X-Freak, these guys aren't your older models by any means. I think they look amazing. However, i think that timeline wise, these guys should probably show up in the future, they look incredibly complex. I do understand that the new sentiels are actually manned now, not just robots, so they do seem like battle suits, i'm interested to see their size in comparison to their ancestors. I think these would be fairly smaller than the larger ones parked outside the x-mansion as we speak. I love the outlines, but it doesn't feel marvel, the feel is more anime. Not taking away from the art or designs, they are awesome blossom, but it feels like it belongs in Big-0. But I'm a dork.

Your designs are quite interesting, the similarity of Megaton to GP02 is interesting, but I suppose that is naught but fitting given his apparent mission profile. The influence of Big O and Evangelion on Orge are also apparent, who else would have extended forearms like that and spines on mecha?
It is all quite well polymerized if I do say so myself, I enjoy the technical aspect of these designs.
