Description Opening to the Deep Freeze series.

The story:

We had 10 inches of snow, maybe more, but was compacted by who knows how many inches of freezing rain that lasted through the night into another day.

Transformers across the street exploded, power went out, people evacuated their homes, while others braved the 40F and below temperatures inside their houses, with the 5 degree F temps outside. It looked like bombs had gone off all throughout the city: trees fell down, branches were everywhere, cars were stuck. I saw 18 cars on the freeway on my way to my grandmother's house... and that was before I fell asleep. 3 of the 18 cars were flipped over. Internet was lost... my neighbors across the street feared losing the $2000 worth of fish in their aquariums.

However, admid all the disaster, there was one constant source of wonder and inspiration.

When I woke up to the still scenery outside I rubbed my eyes at the utter beauty of my level 2 snow emergency, for every tree, branch and plant outside was covered in thick glaze of ice, forming the most stunning pieces of natural art I have ever seen. With light playing on the glassy structures, every where you looked was a photographic opportunity that made you gasp. Within minutes of getting up, I was scrambling to pull on my boots and coat and jump out into the yard with my camera and trusy tripod. I was racing with the sun in order to gaze at every aspect of the yard through the lense.

The result is over 300 photos documenting the effects of the freeze of the ice on the trees and around the house. I'm only posting the artsy ones on da, this is the opener. This is my favorite picture of the bunch, because it really says everything about the storm in one frame. I don't remember who turned the measure glass right side up before the storm (they werent supposed to) but the result was funny. Apparently we had four inches of ice.

Enjoy the series, I don't know when it will end. We'll just see how many of these I like enough to post on da and how much time I have to edit them. I made this photo a little bit more blue than the original so it would seem colder. Hope you like.

I should find some of the pictures my dad took during this icestorm a couple years ago ^_^ we lost half of the front tree but that was about it.. but we didn't have power for about a week, and the basement flooded when there was a sudden warm spike and all the ice/snow melted and the sumppumps were still off cause there was no power to make them work >.< that was sfun week.

Well we still don't have sumppumps, so it's nothing new to us when the snow melts.
