The mudflats might look like a stable area. News flash, they aren't. Every year we lose people either because they are tourist and don't know any better, or they want to commit suicide. There have been rare few times that they have been able to pull people out. But more often then not the people are pulled in half instead.
My grandfather created a song for me when I was about 4, about the mudflats, it went like this:
"Dont go on the mudflats tonight Sylvia Darlin
for the mud is really thick
and if you walk in it youll sink
so dont go on the mudflats tonight."
