Description
This is another Pic out of the Graphic Novel "Kennedy's Vendetta". Ith shows a German and French Soldier, fraternizing. The Sepia / Gold Coloring is due to the fact that the depictged scene is a faraway memory from the Founding Legend of Verdun, within the alternative Universe where the story takes place.Related content

Brilliant as always, proves that the First World War was not full of such hatred as the Second World War was.

All that hatred came from inhuman ideologies ( Nazism and communism ) :
- Hitler and his henchmen from NSDAP poisoned minds of Germans with lies about so-called "Aryan race superiority upon lower races" ; many Germans believed in that, so they treated the Jews and Slavic people ( including us Poles ) like parasites;
- the Bolsheviks replaced the Aryan race with "the working class" and the lower races with "capitalists/fascists that have to be destroyed in as violent way as possible"; basically the differences between communism and Nazism are different terminology, but the mechanism is the same.
Between 1914 and 1918, those ideologies were still evolving and soldiers on both sides did not feel any special hatred towards the enemy, at least not such hatred like the SS or NKVD troops felt.

Yes, mechanism is pretty much always the same in totalitarism. Fanatic religions fonction this way, too.

Fanaticism does not exist only amongst religious people and socialists, I have heard about fanatic anti-theists, who attack people because of them having religious beliefs.

This is true. Some atheists are even more fanatic than religious fundamentalists.

That is true. WW1 was a result of badly-established international diplomacies and recklessly stupid imperial ambitions. Some soldiers on most sides did not actually hate eachother nor took the war too seriously.
It was rare with how terrible the war was fought and how many soldiers died so easily, but an event like this DID happened! Sadly, it happend only once in the war:

Very true, yes. I studied WW1 a long time and every here and there you can stumble upon little stories like this. You really should had the state leaders of that time thrown into a hole and let them discuss this out with a fistfight. Would have saved millions of lives.

I've also seen a photo from 1916 showing 3 German infantrymen saving French trooper, who fell into hole covered with water near Douaumont. It can be found on page 77 of the book "Great Battles of World War 1" by Anthony Livesey [link]
