My first time ever drawing the Blob and it was pretty fun!I wanted him to look menacing, not just overweight, so I really increased the proportions on his arms and legs. If he weights 900+ pounds, he needs to really have some huge legs!
I've been in a creative rut lately so I thought I would enter a contest to get my motivation up. This inked piece is for a contest at the Blob-Cartel group . I kept the pencils pretty rough so I won't bother to upload them.

I could tell.
I used to be All byrne my self. You would never know it tho.
I go through stages of worship.
And when I move out of them onto some one new, I keep a little of the important things that are right for ME intact that I got from Them.
Im just getting off Berni writson and onto Andy Braz.
Now, this next part is NOT meant as an Insult. So take it with a grain of salt.
I used to be a Frazetta Nut. Big time. he still remains my largest influence right after Byrne as a matter of fact.
Then some one told me, that there is only ONE Frank Frazetta Kid. and its Him, NOT You.
it hurt.
But, he was right.
His name was Barry wandsor smith, whom I met at sandiago comic con.
Now I have to say the same to You lad.
There is Only ONE John Byrne and its HIM, not You.
And here is a little under the table knowledge.
The BIG companies wont hire a clone artist. Just FYI.
its considered disrespectful to the legends and the industry.
You can keep identifiable elements in your style from your favorites, but to mimic them too closely is actually a no no.
You work is Great by the way. so who cares what "I" say.
Take a spin through my gallery, and if my work is crap, then disregard, right?

Hey Grant, no worries, I don't take it as an insult at all. If someone takes the time to write a comment, I always see that as a good thing as long as it's constructive. Getting another artist's perspective is always worth it.
I am very glad that you think my work is great. I've been to your page a few times in the past and yours is amazing.
I will say though, that I don't set out to be a clone at all so I will take that part of the comment as a compliment. I learned to draw faces/figures mostly from "How to draw comics the Marvel way" by the legend John Buscema. I guess that classic style comes out no matter what I draw which is probably why you see some Byrne in it. You're not the first to notice that, and I'm sure you won't be the last.
