I always felt a special love for seahorses (Hippocampus). I was really getting sad while finishing this piece of art β¦ stupid humans, destroying everything and trying to get the last specimens before complete extinction.
Many species of seahorse are threatened with extinction because of human activities. Their habitats are destroyed by fisheries. They are caught and used as medicine or dried and sold to tourists. They are also caught and sold as aquarium fish, but most do not survive as seahorses are very hard to keep.

This is sad. I know this to be true, and it is not just animals that are being controlled, cadged and mistreated by humans... we are doing to ourselves as well. We have little natural spirit anymore.... we traded in our sould for $$$ and so called "security". This "security" is confinment, not freedom as we have been convinced. And unfortunatly human animals see themselves as above all the other species. We take them down with us.

"Hippocampe" is "seahorse" in French It's how I remember. I like this a lot - it's desolate, gentle.

Sea horses for the world.
I never liked zoos, dead animals they sell to tourists, and other such things either.

This is absoloutely exquisite. As soon as I saw it, I thought "That has got to be given a Daily Deviation!" Looks like someone beat me to it, and I'm quite glad, because this is a piece that deserves to be widely aknowleged.

It is so very sad to look at...
Seahorses are so beautiful, but in the place where they belong...
Dunno why, if people like them.. destroy them just to show them off or something
I think the DD comment is perfect for the work

I too have been especially fond of seahorses for about as long as I can remember. My first and only tattoo is a little orange seahorse named Harpo.
This is so simple, yet so moving.....though I agree that the bubbles, if they're trying to look like they're realistically rising up from the bigger one, ought to be more spaced out. but do seahorsies make bubbles? I feel silly because I don't actually know....Perhaps you could make a copy of this without bubbles and see if you like it better?
anyway, great work. I'm not a fav-crazy kinda deviant, but this deserves a place in my favorites.

Thank you for your kind comment and your critique. Now that it was said some times I start to think it too ... I mean about the bubbles. In fact I don't think they normally do bubbles at all but the reason I put the bubbles there was to strenghen the feeling of desperation.
Have a great day,
Diana

Powerful indeed. Yes it is a big shame But as long as there is money to be made somewhere, for someone, the planet will continue to be consumed. Fav.
(Isn't sxc.hu a great place for stock photos?? XD)

i like it, however i feel that the bubbles are a bit too close to each other.
the sea horses do show a sense of sadness, which seems to be what you are suggesting for the image. nice work there.

Could be, I start feeling this too but as I said above: In fact I don't think they normally do bubbles at all but the reason I put the bubbles there was to strenghen the feeling of desperation.
