Description This a sample work from my Mini-Thesis as a requirement in my Certificate degree in Fine Arts. I call the series 'Reverse Distortion'. The idea took off from the Art of Anamorphosis, where anamorphoscopes reverse the effects of distortion, some related artworks are Holbein's The Ambassadors and MichaelAngelo's collosal David, it is associated with trompe'loil and foreshortening. But this time I used a spoon to redistort the images. Hope you all like it.

Abstract

An Anamorphic image appears distorted, usually constructed on an elongated grid, but viewed from a specific viewpoint, or with the use of an anamorphoscope the real image can be seen in its undistorted form." Anamorphosis" is a Greek word meaning transformation, or more literally "formed again."Renaissance painters like Leonardo da Vinci (credited with the discovery of the technique) used cylindrical mirrors to paint distorted images while looking at the mirror. Some possible reasons why artists do this: to convey deeper messages like political views (i.e. Holbein’s The Ambassadors) or experiment with Foreshortening and Trompe l’oeil. Practical applications of the technique can be seen everyday such as “School Crosswalk” and directional arrows (i.e. car park and taxis only) that are painted on the road surface anamorphically—stratched out—so that these signs are easily understood by the drivers who must view them obliquely. Fascination with the technique inspired many generation of artists to play with different ways of distortion and anamorphosis. They also used conical mirrors or Lamp-chimney shaped cylindrical, but can a simple teaspoon or tablespoon be used to reverse and undistort the distorted image?

tnx! nagets mo ba yung process ko? medyo komplikado e...kailangan mo ng kutsarita to correct the distortions.

'there is no spoon, Neo'
tee hee i couldnt resist
very interesting though...so the image being reflected is really distorted and warped? i'd love to see how the image is before it gets spooned..

Yes, the image i painted is warped or distorted. I did this by painting while looking at the spoon, i also tried taking pictures as study and i did some grids, but i still have to look at the reflection in the spoon, cause taking a picture of my works, distort it one level. actual sizes are 3inches by 3inches. tnx for the comment. btw, im new here, dont know how to add u or do i have to? well, i guess just see ur works. later.
