I really wish something like this had actually happened. I get that it wouldn't work with the moral at the end of the story thing, but, it'd have been freaking cool. Short of the Yaks having alicorn equivalents ruling THEM and having an equivalent of Discord, they're screwed. I mean the alicorn equivalents ruling them, I can buy, maybe, but, a Discord equivalent? Nope.

They don't have to be. We have seen where the royalty of Yakyakistan sleeps. They can't have more than a hundred yaks in their capitol. Twilight could handle their whole 'army' alone without breaking a sweat.

You think that's all the yaks there are? That's like saying that you've got an idea of the numbers of Equestria based off of seeing one city. Furthermore, Equestria got their asses whooped by the Storm King's army, which doesn't exactly seem too much more impressive than the yaks in so far as just being big, brawny creatures.Β
Defeating magic is easy, just bring a polished, reflective surface. We see Rarity deflect one of Flurry's disgustingly powerful rays with a simple hand mirror and the Storm creatures deflect Twilight's ray with a polished shield, so clearly the solution is to just bring some reflective armor and shields and watch their magic uselessly bounce off.

Too epic...For Hasbro to stomach. ... Also it would be a shift in dynamic which would force hasbro to change it's target demographic (not that it would impact sales or anything but still...) Which may end up either making or breaking the show.
