Description
HC-130 refueling an HH-3 with Iceland in the background. I was the loadmaster on the HC-130 where I'm sitting in the open doorway. 1981I have really enjoyed seeing the HC-130's that has been posting and thought I would share a few of my memories I've scanned.
A PJ (pararescue) on a second helicopter took this photo and gave me an 8x10. This is the original scan... I do have a version I've cleaned up and have on a 20x30 poster but I still like the "feel" of this straight out of the frame version.

Back in my young and foolish days.... as opposed to my old and foolish times now.

I was stationed at NAS Keflavik, in Iceland. The PJ's up there had the h-53's then, but the still refueled by the HC-130 over the base, during practices.

Really? Way cool! The poor HH-3 was a work horse but it was underpowered. Refueling them was certainly an interesting experience. The HH-53 had enough muscle to fly into the refueling position while the HH-3 dove into into it then "drafted" behind the HC-130. But, I have to admit, it was fun!
I spent enough time at NAS Keflavik on alert with the HC-130's to get credit for a short tour. Laughs, it certainly made England a much nicer place!

Silly Me!
Yes, comes from wallowing in the air to allow the HH-3 to keep up... with a bit of "drafting" going on as well.
