Description
England X Chubby!Reader ~ Summertime SadnessWith a happy sigh Arthur tucked his hand into yours, the fingers interweaving and knitting intimately together. Certainly you were on the bigger side but that meant there was more for him to love and hold at night. The pair of you walked across the sand, feet sinking into the sand with each step. He gently bumped his shoulder against yours causing you to let out a small giggle. Your t-shirt and shorts moved with the breeze moving through the beach. He was so blessed to have you in his life, even more so to be dating you. You were filled to the brim with an ethereal inner beauty that drew him in the moment he set eyes on you but that light was faded today. There was something off with the way that you had been acting since you got here.
You were withdrawn and slow to react to questions. Even when you did realize you were being asked something your answers were vague and occasionally unrelated.
Perhaps Alfred would know Arthur thought and it made sense. Alfred did have more experience with women and despite most of his relationships ending horribly Alfred must have picked something up.
“I’m going to get something to drink,” you said, “do you want something?”
“A lemonade is fine dear,” Arthur said, pressing a kiss to your plump hand, “I’ll be over at the towel with Alfred.”
“I’ll look for you there,” you murmured with eyes looking faraway.
A worried look passed through his face as you left and he made his way to his annoying American half-brother.
“Oh hey, brosky,” Alfred shouted as Arthur came near, “where’s your girl?”
“She has a name,” he snapped, sitting on the towel.
“To be completely honest I forgot it a while ago,” Alfred awkwardly rubbed the back of his head, “and it would be weird and hurtful to ask now.”
Arthur pinched the bridge of his nose, counting to ten before asking.
“I need your help with something.”
Alfred plopped down beside Arthur and sent an inquisitive look at his half-brother as Arthur began to explain what was wrong with you.
“She’s been withdrawn since we’ve gotten here and anytime she answers a question the answers are vague,” Arthur explained, not admitting that he was terrified of losing you.
“She’s probably just self-conscious,” Alfred calmly explained putting sunglasses on, “no offense but she is on the bigger side. Susan was like that at the beach as well, she’s probably comparing herself to other, no offense, thinner girls here and bringing herself down.”
“How come you can remember the name of a girl you dated for a month over my girlfriend that you have known for years,” Arthur asked, seriously curious.
“That’s what you pick out of that,” Arthur glared at Alfred who raised his hands in defeat before continuing, “I remember Susan’s name because that’s the girl that I had to get a restraining order on, you tend to remember someone’s name when you fill it out on so many forms. You just need to reassure her that you find her attractive and that’ll help her find some self-love.”
“How do I do that?” Arthur flopped backwards in defeat, it had taken him months to gather the courage to even talk to you and he was still a bumbling fool.
“Compliment her I guess,” he shrugged, covering his eyes with his hands and then waved you over when he spotted you.
Arthur gave an exasperated look at his brother which quickly morphed into a smile when he caught sight of you.
“Here’s a lemonade for you Arthur,” you said handing it over, “and I thought that Alfred would like a Cola so I got one for him.”
“Thanks,” Alfred reached out and grabbed the cold can, “you’re so thoughtful.”
“I was there already,” you opened the bottle and stared into it blankly, “it was honestly no trouble.”
Alfred gave a significant look at Arthur as your boyfriend internally panicked then slid an arm awkwardly around your broad shoulders. His movements stiff as he pulled you closer and press an awkward kiss to your crown.
“You look beautiful today,” he said before blundering, “not that you don’t look beautiful all the time but you look a bit more beautiful today.”
“Uh,” your blank expression changed to confusion, “thank you?”
“I’m gonna go call Matthew and Francis to see what’s taking them so long,” Alfred left, clearly uncomfortable with the awkwardness that had settled on the group.
“So how are you doing,” Arthur asked, “having fun?“
“I…” you started before Alfred returned with both Matthew and Francis shouting a greeting.
“Nevermind,” your eyes turned down at the interruption and Arthur glared at the trio arriving, “I’ll throw the garbage out.”
“I can…” Arthur started before you interrupted him.
“It’s no trouble,” you gathered the various cans and left.
Alfred spoke up as the four men arranged themselves in a circle, “I have come up with another solution.”
“You need to brag about your babe to others,” He stated, “show that she’s beautiful enough that you can proudly state that you are dating.”
“Who am I going to brag to?” Arthur asked before elaborating, “Go up to random people and tell them. I can’t brag to you or she would definitely think something was up.”
“Ah,” Alfred began to retort then meekly said, “You may have a point.”
Matthew piped up, “Show that you appreciate the things she does for you.”
“That I can do,” Arthur said spotting you returning.
“What were you guys talking about,” you asked, sitting down and tucking your chubby legs up to your chest.
“Just guy stuff,” Alfred nonchalantly responded, raising his hand up to block the late afternoon sun.
“Thank you for throwing that away love,” Arthur curled his hand around yours and gently rubbed it, “it means a lot to me the things you do so selflessly.”
“Thank you, Arthur,” you replied, a smile spreading across your face.
The four boys spread a collective smile before it faded when a blank expression replaced your own smile.
“Do you want to go swimming,” Arthur asked and your face paled in response.
“N…no,” you stuttered, eyes wide, “I’ll stay here and hold down the fort.”
Francis gave a significant look to Arthur while behind you with his gorgeously sculptured eyebrows.
“Are you sure because I can…” Arthur started but was cut off by your head furiously shaking.
“I'll just be over there,” Arthur said, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead, “wave me over if you need anything.”
As he waded out into the ocean, unwilling to go too deep. Francis appeared next to him arms crossed over his chest and a serious look on his face.
“She needs more help than I thought,” Francis said taking a deep breath before continuing, “it’s sad to see such a beautiful girl doubt her own beauty.”
Arthur’s eyebrows furrowed as he debated to tell Francis to back off. He then let it slide as there were more pressing things to be worried about such as how to snap you out of your depressive state. Was it his own fault, had he failed in his duty as your lover in convincing you that you were worthy of love. Did he not show enough affection to make you unshakeable in your awareness of your own beauty?
“What can I do,” Arthur’s shoulders slumped with defeat, “I just don’t know what to do.”
“Go to her,” Francis gently placed his hand on Arthur’s shoulder, “and ask her. It’s only going to make it worse if you dance around the issue. After she tells you what is wrong you can assure her that she is beautiful.”
Arthur looked thoughtful for a second before giving a slight nod, he then returned to the towel. His heart cracking at your blank expression. A sigh left his mouth as he sat next to you, your head dazedly turned to him and your eyebrows furrowed together.
He cradled your hand between both of his as he softly asked, “What’s troubling you. And don’t try to deny it, you’ve been acting oddly all day.”
“It’s silly,” you turned your head away, suddenly blushing.
“It’s obviously not silly if it’s been bothering all day,” one hand moved to gently persuade you to look at him.
“It’s just… it’s stupid but I guess that’s why it bothers me so much,” you tugged at the hem of your sleeve.
“What is it,” Arthur pressed, mentally listing everything he found beautiful about you.
“I just…” you took a deep breath before admitting what was bothering you.
“I can’t swim.”
His mind went blank at that surprising fact and he stared blankly at you.
“I said it was stupid,” your eyes glanced down as Arthur panicked and words burst out of his mouth.
“It’s not stupid,” he rubbed the back of his head before admitting, “I can’t swim either.”
A genuine smile spread across your face as chuckles started to bubble in your chest. It was quickly replaced with a full laugh that had Arthur joining in as well.
“I feel silly now,” your hand covered your plump cheek as a smile spread across your face.
As do I, I shouldn’t have assumed that it was because of your body, Arthur thought as he pressed a kiss against your full lips.
“I’ll always be here for you,” Arthur pulled away and grasped both of your chubby hands.
“I know,” you smiled at him, “you always make me feel so beautiful.”
“Good,” he whispered before pulling you in for another kiss.

ah, this was refreshing! People abuse the whole chubby reader trope. Why can't it be chubby reader who's proud of her chub?? So this was a nice break from that, and it was very cute

I've never particularly felt very self conscious about my chub and I would have felt like I was lying to have this story pertain around that. I also have read the whole "self conscious about my bod at the beach" plot too much so I decided to do a spin on that. Thank you for your kind comment
