Description
I am just learning 3D. The program I am learning is Maya 4.5/5.0. Anyways, I was praticing, and trying to make a Chrome Texture. Thus, this is what i got. 3 Different types of reflecting textures. None of them are what i wanted, but i liked it. I also was playing around trying to learn Lighting, and shadows, and stuff.. I didn't do the best work in the world, but I liked it, and i havn't posted anything for a long time, so i thought i would. Well I hope i get some feed back..Later peeps,

LOL, I've done it all, almost.. Maya, Lightwave, 3d max, Unreal Ed ( Unreal Ed is one of my fav 3d things ), Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, MS Publisher, I hated fireworks.. From Text programming, to Digital Drawing.. LOL, they are two different crazy worlds, but i go in and out of them like crazy.. I really wish I spent more time with Maya, Lightwave, and 3D Max, but time is money, and Life deined me the time.. Hopefully, one day Ill beable to spend more time in the 3d World.. I enjoyed 3D, and Maya is the God when it comes to that shit.. Fully loaded with tons of shit ill never touch.. but its cool to have the options.. This is just one of the first renders i made when i started my 3D class..
Thanks for checking it out though.. I forgot I even did this.. I cant remember the last time i loaded up maya.. No need to do 3d these days..

This is really cool 3d work. May not be what you wanted, but I like the way it turned out.

Thanks.. its not great, just beginners stuff.. playing with textures and lightning.. maybe one day ill make something cool, but that requires accually doing stuff that takes longer than a day, and thats just to hard for me.. effort and all.. damn i hate being lazy.. I really wanted to make a little alien too..

You will. I have a 3d program (although I haven't submitted anything here yet) and the learning curve is fairly long. It would probably help if I used it more...but I don't always have the time. Just keep working on it, it'll get easier in time.

Yeah, that is very true about the learning part.. I took a class on Maya, I bought 4 books on maya, and I bought 5 or 6 DVD's on learning maya, I know how everything works, and what it does, but when i go into the program, i just either fforget because it's been to long, or I get pissed because what i want to do isn't working right, since i have't done it enough to master it, so i close it and go back to photoshop..
I also got allot of Info on Lightwave, and i've done some studing on 3d max.. Lightwave seems to be the easiest, however, I never really sat down and used it.. I bought 2 or 3 dvd's on lightwave, and read a book on it, and thats the only reason i think its easier than the other two.. but then again, i never really sat down and tried using it, so i am probably wrong..
Thanks again,

I've got Cararra Studio 4, mostly becuz it seems to be the only one that cross-platforms to the mac. But the learning curve still seems to be steep. There's a lot I still don't know, but every time I pick it up, I learn something new, or something I knew before gets a little easier. But I understand your frustration. I feel it too.

I don't think i ever seen or heard of that one.. Going to have to write that down on my list of things to check into.. I just wanted to Make characters, and pose them and make wallpaper, not animate or anything, and i can't seem to get that down.. Now i just seem to use it to model static meshes for Unreal, then export to maps i build.. I just hope that after I get my degree, it'll give me more time to learn the things that i find important, and i want to learn.. I believe Maya is made for the Mac, you may wanna look into that, but then again, Maya is very costly, and has ALLLOT of crap you have to learn.. A buddy of mine who model's for video games for a living, he said he don't like maya for the fact that it has way to much shit.. So it may be best to just stay away from that damn program until you get the full understanding of 3d space

Have you looked into Poser? It's an easy way of posing chararacters that export to other programs. Not sure if you can model in it though. I thought about getting it just to get a pose I like and then doing the detail work in Cararra. But I haven't decided yet. And video games need low-poly count objects, due to all the other memory requirements needed for all the animation and other aspects involved in gaming. So he probably wouldn't like a program that's too detailed. And yeah, I looked into Maya. I think the price tag kept me away. Cararra's price tag is what made my decision. I think it's a lot more expensive now than when I first bought it, but I only had to pay the upgrade cost this last time around.

Yeah, i tried poser when it first rolled out, then i tried a few more versions after that, but never did get into it or like it well.. I also tried Bryce a few times.. His problem wasn't the poly count.. because you can adjust that as need be, but it was just he didn't like that Maya had just to much junk that he would never use, and that it just has to much stuff all together, and he just models and maybe a little bit of animation every now and then, so he uses 3d Max for his video games that the company makes.. Yeah you are right though, Maya is really expensive.. I got a students copy from the school I was in, and then I downloaded a Unlimited version thru the internet.. Ill have to take a peek at what Cararra is all about though, that is completely new to me..

Yeah, 3dsMax does seem to be kind of the standard. But for high end video graphics, like in movies, it seemed like Lightwave was the program of choice. At least I think it was Lightwave. I'd have to double check, and I don't have the luxury of time right now.
And do that. I'd like to know what you think of it. Maybe I'll submit something from it I've done before and have you give me a critique. I don't have anything ready right now, but I think I might be able to rework an older one.

Yeah, Lightwave and Maya seem to be popular for movies and them 3d Cartoons, I know Pixar(SP?) uses Maya, and then that Iceage movie was done in lightwave.. Then Spiderman 1 and 2 used Maya, harry potter.. I use to love chilling on Maya's home page and Lightwave's homepage, and just watch and read and look at their gallery's that where submited by movie makers of how they used their software and stuff.. its really great stuff..
Yeah, i wouldn't mind looking at your stuff.. Last night i opened up maya, i wanted to make something abstract for photoshop, but couldn't seem to do it.. ehh..

Usually it takes me days or weeks to put something together in 3d, becuz even when the modelling is done, there are all the surface attributes and bg's and lighting and they way they all interact. It's not a quick piece of work, that's for sure. I'll have to see what I can get together...maybe have something by next week. At least I hope.

Those chrome textures look nice, especially love how the "M" of Maya turned out. Keep on, and much fun with Maya
