Luck for once was on your side as you sat before the Mayor and his officials. Erwin had been able to convince them to have the meeting in private rather than the courthouse. The city was in too much distress to hold a hearing right now. So here you were, sitting at the edge of the table right next to Erwin. The city officials, along with some ministers sat on both sides of the table with the mayor at the end. Levi sat in the corner of the room, arms crossed in either irritation or boredom. It was difficult to tell.

"Erwin, I have some issues with your plan. If you knew who to target, why didn't you seek the assistance of the Military Police?"

"Mayor, as long as the possibility exists that the female may have accomplices still in hiding, it was necessary to proceed using only those we could prove were not," Erwin answered in the calmest voice you had ever heard from him. His voice never faltered along with his eyes, which mirrored the Mayor's strong gaze.

"Granted," The Mayor answered "But what do you have to say to the severe damage inflicted on the Stohess District?"

"We lacked sufficient capability to prevent that, I deeply apologize,"

"An apology isn't enough!" Minister Nick shouted, his eyes full of rage and sorrow. If memory served, he was the main Minister in the Church of the Walls, one of the first buildings to fall during the fight between Annie and Eren. You remembered seeing the countless bodies crushed under the concrete walls of the church. Men, woman and children all killed in that single moment without even a warning.

Without even flinching the Commander responded "If we did nothing, the wall would have been destroyed and the damage would have been much greater,"

"I see," the Mayor clasped his hands together, his eyes hardening while his lips pulled taunt into a grimace. "So, do you have any concrete proof that this operation, with its heavy casualties, has prevented the end of humankind?"

"Yes, we were able to capture the titan shifter Annie who is responsible for countless civilian and soldier deaths,"

"About that," the Mayor's eyes shifted to you. "Why were we not informed you had another shifter in your ranks?"

You held your breath at his question. This was it, what the Commander said next would determine whether or not you would go free.

"We did not want attention brought to her like it had been with Eren. We did not want the public to worry,"

The Mayor's eyebrow arched "And is she something we should worry about?"

"No," Erwin swiftly answered. "[Name] has done everything she could to protect her fellow soldiers and without her aid we would not have been able to capture Annie alive,"

You stared the Commander in shock, eyes widened and mouth slightly parted. You half expected him to not stand up for you, but then again without doing so he would lose his most valuable asset. You were merely a tool to him, something to be used for his purposes, whatever they may be.

"That's well and good, but what do you have to say Ms [Name]?"

You couldn't help but gulp as all eyes shifted to you. "Yes sir?" you asked, your voice barely making it past your lips.

"Are you an ally of humanity?"

"Of course I am," you replied a bit surprised he'd have to ask you such a question.

"Will you do all in your power to protect and defend humanity against the titan threat until your dying breath?"

"I will sir!" you replied with determination, hoping your conviction would take some suspicion off of you. You could practically feel everyone's eyes boring into your skull.

"Well alright then," the Mayor replied "I just have one additional question,"

"What is it?" you asked, slightly nervous as to what his question was.

"Do you have a sister?"

Your breath hitched at his at the peculiar question for it was pretty much the last thing you'd expect him to say.

"What the hell kind of a question is that?" Levi rudely asked from the corner of the room.

"Levi calm down, let [Name] answer," The Commander ordered. "Go ahead [Name],"

You weren't quite sure how to respond "I did" you finally replied "but she died when I was young," Your eyes flicking to Levi before darting to the floor.

"I'm sorry to hear that," The Mayor replied solemnly

"It's alright, it was a long time ago," you replied before nervously glancing to the Mayor. "But sir, if you don't mind me asking....why do you want to know?"

The Mayor hesitating a bit before answering "There was girl who looked just like you, a criminal who attepted to assassinate the King. I wanted to make sure you weren't related. We certainly couldn't allow her sister to be go free, you understand right?"

"Of course sir," you reply, though your mind was spinning with both confusion and anger. The situation was too similar to what happened to you in your hometown. So it turned out these people, the ones you fought to protect, would punish you for something you didn't do.

"If that's all, then are we free to go?" Levi asked, clear annoyance in his tone.

"Yes," the Mayor replied

"Alright [Name], let's go" Levi commanded to which you immediately comply. You couldn't tell if he was annoyed at the situation or mad at you. Technically you had never been lying to him since he had never asked you about your past. Still learning that you had a sister and that someone who looked like you attacked the King? Couldn't exactly be a coincidence.

"Some words of caution for you all," The Mayor quickly added before you left "If I find out that any one of you have been lying, I will not hesitate to imprison you. Punishment will be swift for any and all who pose threat to humanity, do you understand me?"

"No one's lying, you old bastard," Levi snapped irritatingly

"Levi that's enough!" Erwin snapped. "My apologies sir, we'll take our leave and your words to heart,"
