Some of you have already raised your eyebrows at the 30-year split between Brandy's and Larry's ages, and have said so. I hope you'll remember me back at the beginning saying that this split would be there, and it was going to be part of the story. There are splits as great both in established fiction and real life -- and it's not always some hot chick going after an old millionaire's money, or some old cougar looking for a new young mustang to ride. Perhaps you'll rest easier a bit now that my supporting cast is commenting on this split, too. That too was also part of my story plan. Remember the title? Autumn Spring? Two very different seasons at opposite ends of the year? The issue of that big age split is always going to be there, like a submarine just below the surface -- and it's going to pop up now and again as the series continues, and especially once Brandy and Larry start to draw close. That's not going to be for a while yet, though. I've got too much fun stuff for them planned before that.

The name "Svengali" is almost always invoked whenever an older guy attempts to dominate a younger woman for his own ends -- and usually inappropriate or evil ones at that. It comes from the 1895 novel Trilby by George du Maurier
