Description
NOTE - This is a replacement image (and entry) of a more accurate model than the image I had up before.
Ported to OBJ from model originally created and released by the_frog as part of his J to Z Destroyer Pack, and later included as a stock model with the Living Silent Hunter 3 2015 uber-mod for Silent Hunter 3 (SH3) by Ubisoft. Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS. NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.
The "Q and R" subclass of the World War II era British "J series destroyers used the full hull of the original "J" class instead of the somewhat shorter hulls of the "Os and Ps," so extra fuel storage could be added for increased operating range. In addition the ASW weapons suite was altered, with four depth charge mortars (aka Y-guns) carried instead of two at the expense of one depth charge rack. ASDIC (sonar) and radar were standard right out of the yard. On the "R" class the officer's wardroom was relocated amidships instead of the traditional right aft location so it would be easier to do watch changes in bad weather. The main drawback of the "R" class (and the preceding "Qs") was they they had to be fitted with whatever weapons were available due to wartime shortages. This typically mean older model single-purpose low angle 4.7 inch main guns that couldn't elevate higher than 40 degrees, 4-barrelled pom-poms instead of a dual Bofors 40mm for heavy AA, and single 20mm AA guns (although the number was often increased to six). Two of the "Qs" were lost in action but the rest along with all of the "Rs" would survive the war. Three were sold to the newly independent India to help them start their own navy, three went to Australia, and one went to the Netherlands to help them rebuild theirs. These would serve their new owners well into the first half of the Cold War before being taken out of service. Of the two "Qs" and five "Rs" that remained with the British Royal Navy (BRN), one was scrapped in 1949 and the rest converted to Type 15 ASW frigates in the early 1950s for Cold War service. Most were scrapped in the late 1960s and early 1970s as their age finally caught up with them, and this included both of the remaining "Qs." The last surviving "R" in foreign service, India's INS Rajput (ex-HMS Rotherham), was sent to the breakers in 1976. The last surviving World War II era "R" in BRN service, HMS Rapid, was expended as a target ship in 1981. To find out more about the British "R" class destroyer, follow the link below:

This is a straight port with no changes by me.
While I am no longer making my OBJ ports of Silent Hunter series models available for public download, you can get this yourself in one of two different ways. You can extract it piecemeal from the game data after installing any mods as listed above with the SKWAS/s3ditor model editing utility and then rebuild it in your preferred 3D modeling software, or you can install the mod(s) and then rip the model from the game's Museum feature using any good 3D model ripper (3D Ripper DX or NinjaRipper recommended).
For those of you who don't want to mess with any of this, you might want to take a look at the Silent Hunter 5 (SH5) "R" class destroyer model. It's nowhere near as accurate as the_Frog's model; however, it was ripped from the game many years ago and the download archive was still available at the Pack 3D website last time I checked. Here's the link, but I won't promise that it still works:
