Description
Ported to OBJ from the STL model created by David Bogaerts. Based on the original design as seen in BSG TOS and as created by Apogee, Inc. for the pilot episode "Saga of a Star World." Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS. You can download David's original model at the link below, although you'll have to port it to other formats and further refine it yourself (Blender is the best path for porting as the original STL model has no textures, for starters). NOTE - This ship is unique to BSG TOS. It has no known counterpart or analog in NuBSG/TRS.
This is one of the many generic Rag-Tag Fleet ship models that was kitbashed together at the start of BSG TOS. It was only ever seen in stock fleet shots, never being identified or featured in any way in any given episode of TOS. The name is a fan-assigned one given the total lack of information on it and may not be indicative of its real purpose, whatever that might be. I for one have always viewed this as one of the older ships in the fleet given the way it looks, probably a sixth millennium small transport design from the timeframe of the Cylon War and along the same lines as Robber's ship as seen in "The Long Patrol." A number of other old school BSG TOS fans share my opinion, although at the end of the day we're just guessing. We'll never know what this was supposed to be due to the cancellation of BSG TOS, unless and at some point far later down the road the BSG franchise rightsholders allow some identification and/or use for it to be retconned.
May the blessings of the Lords of Kobol go with you.
TRIVIA - This is often misidentified as Robber's ship from "The Long Patrol" and I made the same mistake myself until I went back and watched the episode. Robber's ship has a unique design that looks nothing like this, and there's even surviving photos of both the actual filming miniature and the partial front-end mockup (built around a PBY-5 Catalina flying boat front end, of all things!) made for filming purposes. That said both share that same aged sixth millennium Colonial style and look IMHO and that of many others. Whatever works for you, folks.
