Description

Ported to OBJ from the Sketchup model by Michael W.P., aka "smike."  Based on the original design by Fabrio Prassirio as seen in Episode 2 ("Voices in the Dark: Over There," in the background of the space battle behind the Warlock) of the Babylon 5: Lost Tales video release, and as later expanded upon by Mongoose Publishing in their licensed Babylon 5 Wars sci-fi war game.  See also Babylon 5: Ships of the Galaxy (p. 50).  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  You can get the original SketchUp model from smike's account at Google's 3D Warehouse, although you'll have to port it to other 3D model formats yourself.  Here's the link:

Kutai (sometimes misspelled Kutasi) is an old design dating back to a time when the Centauri Republic was still young and vital and ever-expanding in all directions.  It is known to be based on a design captured from one of the members of the League of Non-Aligned Worlds (hence its non-Centauri appearance despite the paint job), but the identity of its true creators remains unknown even at this late date nor will the Centauri discuss the matter.  The best you can get out of them on the subject is something like, "They were tough and fought hard in their tough little ships, but in the end we beat them and now their tough little ships are ours."  Whatever (chuckle).  Anyway, while it was probably a pretty good small capital ship back in its day, within the timeframe of the original B5 series Kutai had been downgraded to the status of a large gunboat class by almost everybody.  They have served as the Centauri fleet's main training ships for the past two decades and are well regarded in that role by almost everyone.  Many more are used as picket ships and sector patrol craft, which means they get encountered a lot both on Centauri borders and in its more populous areas.  Also, while it may look like an antique in a modern era Kutai is very maneuverable and still packs a pretty hefty punch for its size thanks to Centauri weaponry, engines, and other improvements over the march of many years in their service.  Kutai can be pressed into service as a fleet combatant as need be and does fairly well by itself if kept within its throw weight and if the need is pressed, but its greatest strength when used as a warship is as a fast strike craft supporting larger ships in fleet battles.

This is a straight port with no changes by me.

NOTE - This is one of those SketchUp models where you're going to have to fight with a lot of flipped normals before it looks right.
