Description

Ported to OBJ from the recreation by Redragon for the video game Star Trek: Bridge Commander (BC).  Based on the original design by Rick Sternbach for the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Life Line" and subsequently reused in other Franchise productions and media.  Preview picture posed in XNAlara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

There has been more than one Jupiter Station in orbit around Jupiter (Sol V), the gas giant world that is the largest planet in the Sol System, but this particular write-up for Mandel's deals with the one constructed during the TNG/DS9/VOY era.  It was built as a replacement for an older one (either TMP or post-TMP era, data not definite there) that was destroyed by Dominion forces and their allies during the Dominion War.  The speed at which this new Jupiter Station was built (mere months) is largely explained by the fact that it consisted mostly of recycled Starfleet starship, space station, and space platform components left over from other projects and successfully integrated as a whole.  This goes a long way towards explaining both its odd look and certain external features when compared to the standardized Starfleet space stations of the era.  The hasty construction was necessitated by wartime needs, but the end result proved surprisingly robust and the new Jupiter Station would go on to have a very long service life.  It was still in existence and still being used as of the early 25th century per most of my available sources.

Jupiter Station was a major waypoint for all starships operating within the Sol System.  Its operation was a joint civil and Starfleet affair, with it offering its extensive facilities to any and all starships from any species both within the Federation and without that had been granted the necessary clearances by the appropriate Sol System authorities.  Its wide range of facilities and capabilities rivaled those of Starfleet's best starbases in its size class and its Promenade (with its malls and shops and so on) became legendary for its civilian services in the outer part of the Sol System.

Jupiter Station's medical wing deserves special mention due to one of its most popular staff members being an artificial construct.  Her name is Haley, and she is a fully intelligent holographic sentient modeled as an attractive young Terran woman who served as the prototype for the emergency medical holograms (EMHs) that later became common features on Starfleet vessels.  She was willed to the station by her creator upon his death under the condition that she remain active and in use for as long as the station continued to exist.  Haley was still working in the medical wing of Jupiter Station as late as the 25th century in the last report of her activities I have on her.

Jupiter Station should not be confused with the Jupiter Outposts, which were a series of unmanned sensor satellites operated by Starfleet around Jupiter (TNG "The First Duty").  It should also not be confused with the 22nd century Jupiter Station from the Enterprise series in the NuTrek thread of the Trek multiverse.

This is canon, given its appearance in VOY "Life Line."
