Description
Ported to OBJ from the original model created by Raven Knight and Greg Strong, aka "Lord Bile" of Nightsoft originally for the aborted (?) Star Trek: Infinity video game project and later remade for general use with the video game Starfleet Command 2: Orion Pirates (SFC2OP), and which has since been ported by other fans to other Trek based space combat video games and mods. Rewritten backstory is my own. Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS. You can get a souped-up Bridge Commander (BC) port of the later "standardized" Scorpion class as described in my writeup from Gamefront, although you'll have to port it yourself if you need it in another 3D model format (HINT - any NIF format converter or plugin/import script or tool for your preferred 3D software should work). Here's the link:

In selected fanon threads of the vast Trek multiverse, the Scorpion class experimental heavy cruiser (XCA) first came into being roughly in the middle of the TNG/DS9/VOY era. Exactly when depends on which fanon thread you go with (wink), although most of them have the class prototype being tested by Starfleet around the time of the Dominion War. It was yet another one of the multiple Starfleet starship development projects that were initially conceived to combat the Borg. It followed the same general approach to radical Starfleet starship combat design and layout as did the canon Saber class (see separate entry) but in a considerably more refined and technically advanced form, and eventually wound up as a prototype member of the Sovereign generation of starships later in the TNG/DS9/VOY era (again, how late depends on Trek multiverse thread consulted). It was very powerful for its size and was deliberately overgunned (i.e. more weapons than its engines could keep fully charged) in order to give its commanders as many firing solutions as possible during space combat. It also featured a smoothed, streamlined hull with special stealth material coatings to reduce its sensor and scanner signatures, as opposed to the blocker and angular hull of its contemporary Saber. These last two features combined with its many advanced technologies made Scorpion a very expensive starship to build, which is why further development work was more or less suspended during the Dominion War.
In some Trek multiverse threads work on Scorpion was never restarted, with Starfleet going in different design directions instead as evidenced by the canon Prometheus class (VOY) and the later Stargazer class (PIC). In these the prototype Scorpion as shown above remained a one-off lone prototype for the rest of its Starfleet career, with work on and experience with it influencing several other later Starfleet starship classes, and you can do with that whatever you want in your own projects (wink), In others, however (all fanon), work on Scorpion was restarted in the early postwar years and it was eventually approved for construction as one of the last of the TNG/DS9/VOY era Starfleet starship classes. By that time the design had been modified somewhat (NOTE - the above preview piccy shows the original design), although it still closely resembled the original concept and even had the same general shape. The refined Scorpion class thus entered Starfleet service in these Trek multiverse threads as a heavy escort cruiser (NOTE - original creator's designation, make of that what you will) and was thus part of the fleet as the 24th century rolled over into the 25th (PIC series timeframe). I have no further information on the Federation Scorpion class starships beyond that point.
This is fanon, although it's very good fanon IMHO and makes a nice fanon addition to your various Borg Incursion derived Starfleet starship designs.
"Live long and prosper."
ASIDE - This kind of reminds me of the NESA Protector from Galaxy Quest.
