Description

Ported to OBJ from the fan created model made for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series of video games.  Based on the original design by Forest Brown and Dana Knutson created for FASA Corporation's various Franchise licensed Trek gaming products back in the day.  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

This first entered Klingon service at the tail end of the TOS/TAS era, although it's commonly regarded as a TMP and post-TMP era craft since that was when the bulk of its service lifetime took place.  It was an excellent design for its size and type, produced in both armed and unarmed versions, and with custom variants made for every use from common civilian trading vessels to Imperial Security Forces (i.e. Bloodwatch) gunboats and regular Imperial fleet patrol craft.  Its association with the Bloodwatch was a long one during the TMP era, as it was a particular favorite of theirs, but it was expanded beyond their use to the Imperial and House fleets in the middle of the TMP era as the Klingon build-up towards its planned war with the Federation at the end of the 23rd century went into full swing.  The Romulans also received a fair number of Lar'hals as part of the Klingon-Romulan Alliance during this time, which they subsequently adapted for their own particular needs, and dedicated unarmed civilian models began appearing only a few years before the Praxis Event (STVI).  All in all it proved very popular in all of its forms with all of its users, and remained in production well into the post-TMP era before finally being superseded by improved and more advanced designs.  Even in the TNG/DS9/VOY era it was not uncommon to see an old Lar'hal kicking about, more often than not upgraded by its owners to as close to that era's level of starship technology as it old space frame could handle.

This is semi-canon, as it comes from the old FASA gaming continuity.

'IwlIj jachjaj!

ASIDE - I use the classification runabout because that's the one newer Trek fans can instantly grasp and understand.  This was actually considered to be a form of large long range shuttlecraft back in the day, comparable to the Federation Starfleet's Brahe class from TAS "The Slaver Weapon" (nowadays considered a DS9 Danube class predecessor).
