HMLNS Tromp, which entered the service of the Royal Netherlands Navy in mid-September of 1938, was the lead ship of the last capital ship class built to see service with the Dutch during World War II.  Four were intended, but the outbreak of World War II and the subsequent invasion of the Netherlands by the Germans in the spring of 1940 resulted in the last two being cancelled and the mostly complete HMLNS Jakob von Heemskerck having to flee to England in order to complete her final fitting-out.  Because of this she differed  in both appearance and armament when compared to her sister ship Tromp.  The Tromps, like many light cruisers built by various navies at various points during the interwar period, were designed to essentially be overgrown destroyer leaders for destroyer squadrons or flotillas.  At the time Tromp was commissioned she was arguably the most modern and most powerful warship in the small Dutch navy, and escaped capture when the Netherlands were conquered by being overseas working with the fellow light cruisers De Ruyter and Java to protect the Dutch East Indies.  She was one of the few ships in the ill-fated ABDA task force to escape destruction by the Imperial Japanese Navy in early 1942, although she wound up being badly damaged in the Battle of Badung Strait and had to spend time laid up in Sydney, Australia for repairs.  Once she was back in service she fought with the Allies in the Pacific for the rest of the war.  Jakob van Heemskerck had to flee the Netherlands during the German invasion completely unarmed, as she was not yet finished; however, she successfully escaped to Great Britain and was both finished there and armed as an anti-aircraft cruiser.  She spent most of the war escorting Allied supply convoys and over time gained the reputation of being a "lucky ship."  Not a single Allied ship was lost in any convoy that Jakob van Heemskerck assisted in escorting during the war.  Both ships returned to the Netherlands after the war's end and served as light cruisers until the 1950s, when they were downgraded due to their age and converted for use as training and accommodation ships.  Tromp would be scrapped in 1969, abd Jakob van Heemskerck followed her sister ship to the breakers the following year.  To find out more about the Dutch Tromp class light cruisers, follow the link below:

This is a straight port of stuart277's original CFS2 model, with no changes by me save to remove multiple unnecessary duplicated surfaces after the port was done.  This seems to be an issue with many CFS2 ship models, and may have to do with the way they have to be built to work properly with that program.

Please bear in mind that this was created for a flight simulator program, not a video game, and thus does not have the high poly count nor the level of detail of many comparable video game warship models.  It was meant to be seen at a distance, from a simulated airplane flying high above it.  It was never meant for close-ups.  I suggest you use it the same way in your own 3D projects - at a distance - for best effect.

This is not my model.  All I did was port it for you.  Please credit stuart277 for his original effort.  You do not have to credit me for my OBJ port.

ASIDE - Archive includes stuart277's unique models of both ships in the Tromp class, as shown in the preview piccy.
