Description

Ported to OBJ from the model provided by our friends over at Pack 3D.  Original is from Cold Waters.  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

Kashin formed the backbone of the destroyer force of the Soviet Navy during the middle of the Cold War (1960s to mid-1980s).  They were its first destroyer class with a dedidated anti-aircraft capability in order for them to shadow American carrier task forces at sea and deal with American carrier-launched aircraft if the need ever arose.  They still didn't skimp on the anti-submarine warfare role (ASW) that was and still is traditional for Russian-built destroyers, however.  For this latter reason they had the usual range of ASW equipment and were also the first Soviet destroyers to be equipped with an ASW helicopter as a standard feature out of the yard, instead of as an afterthought.  They were also the first Soviet destroyers powered by gas turbine technology instead of steam boilers.  Kashin was quite successful in Soviet service and would serve all the way to the end of the Cold War, with twenty eventually built for Soviet use (one was later sold to Poland) and an additional half-dozen or so more in slightly modified form sold to India for its navy (Rajput class).  They began to be relegated to secondary roles beginning in the 1980s as newer destroyers of the Sovermenny and Udaloy classes entered service.  The end of the Cold War also marked the end of the Kashins, and all but a handful were decommissioned (and later scrapped) during the early 1990s.  As of today (fall 2020) none remain in service save for four of the Indian Navy models.  Only one original Kashin (Smetlivy) remains intact in Russia.  It was finally decommissioned in late summer of 2020 and is currently being converted into a  museum ship at Sevastopol.  To find out more about the Kashin class, follow the link below:

This is the game stock model with no changes by me.  I should note that I was forced to use stock replacement textures for the upper radars, since they were not included in the original download archive.

NOTE - There is a Mod Kashin, sometimes called Kashin II, that was built during the 1980s.  It is this on which India's Rajput class is based.  It is two feet longer, has updated electronics, only one single 76mm main gun, and adds two pairs of SS-N-2D "Styx" (Termit-R) missle launchers on either side of bridge.  Thirteen Mod Kashins were eventually built, with six staying at home while seven went to India.
