This was the fourth and final iteration of the M or Malyutka class (Rus. "baby" or "little one") coastal submarines fielded during World War II by the Soviet Navy (Sovetsky flot).  They started building in 1940 but construction was disrupted by the German invasion of the Soviet Union later that year.  Only three were finished in time to take part in the war (M200, M202, M203) while eleven more were not completed until the war was over for a class total of fourteen (14) boats all told.  They had somewhat enlarged seven-section all-welded hulls which allowed them to be  more heavily armed than earlier M class boats, featuring four forward torpedo tubes instead of only two (and with twice as many torpedoes as before for a total of eight), and also allowed for twin diesels instead of a single one.  They were rated at 80 meters (about 260 feet) dive depth and had a range of about 3000 nautical miles at 8 knots surfaced or 90 miles at 2 knots submerged.  Given the fact that they were the Soviet Union's newest and best coastal boats, the Series XV M class would soldier on well into the Cold War era, with six more that were cancelled during the war re-authorized for construction and an additional 30 ordered as well.  They would continue to serve with the Soviet Navy until the mid-to-late 1960s, when they were phased out in favor of newer types and either sold off or scrapped.  Four Series XV boats were sold to China (M276-M279), which together with some used Shchuka class boats bought with them helped to form the initial backbone of its own PLAN submarine force.  To find out more about the Series XV M or Malyuta class of World War II era Soviet submarines, follow the links below:

This is a straight port with no changes by me.

While I am no longer making my OBJ ports of Silent Hunter series models available for public download, you can get this yourself in one of two ways.  You can extract it piecemeal from the game data using the free SKWAS/s3ditor model utility and rebuild it in your preferred 3D modeling software, or you can rip it directly from the game after installing any necessary mods or mod packs noted above using any good 3D model ripper (3D Ripper DX or NinjaRipper recommended).

For non-profit, non-commercial use only.

TRIVIA - All three of the only Series XV M class boats to serve with the Soviet Navy during World War II were given individual names.  M200 was named месть or Mest (Revenge).  M202 was named Rybnik Donbasa.  M203 was named Irkuckiy Rybnik.  According to Soviet/Russian naval lore the building of Mest was paid for by funds raised by the wives of Soviet submariners lost in action during the Great Patriotic War (WWII).
