"See? That one looks like a zebra! And..."Kopa now began to see the pictures and faces in the clouds "...And that one looks like a lion!" He said, interupting his sister.
What if Kopa was the younger sibling? Perhaps he was conceived just before the battle with the outlanders and was born before Kovu became king? It would explain why he's not in the movies. "Why are Kovu and Kiara not in the books then?" I hear you ask. Perhaps Kovu decided not to take the Pridelands after Kopa was born, but instead went elsewhere with Kiara, like he wanted to in the movie. Maybe this is one of Kiara's frequent visits to see her family

Also, just because they're around doesn't mean they'd appear in the books. Sarabi and Sarafina aren't in TLK2 (though... they could be dead XD) and Zira isn't in TLK1, and Chumvi, Malka, Tojo, Kula, and Tama aren't in any of the films.
Honestly, this explanation makes the most sense if you want to make everything in the books and films cannon without leaving giant plot holes.

It's true! I think debating what could have happened is fun, but I can't imagine actually getting angry over people's theories
I have heard good arguments against "Zira killed Kopa" though. Kiara doesn't seem to remember having had a brother who was brutally murdered, and if they were twins you'd think she'd have been more traumatized. If Kopa was killed before Kiara was born (thus why she didn't know she had a brother), they would be a year apart, and Kovu (who was born before Scar died and thus before Kopa) would be more than a year older than Kiara, probably two seasons older... yet they look the same age.
I guess the other theory is that Kiara was so traumatized by the loss she doesn't remember. Or she *does* remember but she's so flaky she isn't bothered
