Description
Mandragora is one of the most fascinating plants in the world.Often known as mandrake, contain deliriant hallucinogenic tropane alkaloids and the shape of their roots often resembles human figures, they have been associated with a variety of superstitious practices throughout history. Alkaloids present in the fresh plant or the dried root included atropine and scopolamine. When taken internally excite delirium and madness. In the past, mandrake was often made into amulets which were believed to bring good fortune, cure sterility, etc. In one superstition, people who pull up this root will be condemned to hell, and the mandrake root would scream as it was pulled from the ground, killing anyone who heard it. Therefore, in the past, people have tied the roots to the bodies of animals and then used these animals to pull the roots from the soil. (wikipedia)

I kind of like the montone color here, it works nicely with the subtle highlights and all the elements blend really well. Nice work!

Thanks a lot, it wasn't my first intention, but in colours it was really monotonic, so to speak!

Really love this one, the sort of absence of color and the whole texture work, how the light slips into the scene... beautiful but also somewhat haunting!

Heehee I guess it might be the color, she sure has sort of a ghostly feel, or spirit of the forest or alike.
You're most welcome!

Mandragora is fascinating for me. I like the sound of that word. In Spanish it has an accent mark on the second "a". So the phonetic sound is strong in that syllable.
I thought to name one of my birds females Mandragora but it was a word too long.
I like your picture. I like the way you has represented the roots with the body of the girl and the leaves in her head as the part which looks out the floor. The shades in gray reinforce the mysterious atmosphere of this plant. Beautiful work as always.

I never heard of mandrake or mandragora, it definitely sounds interesting as i am particularly interested in the magic/witchcraft/supernatural , I find them all so intriguing. After reading the description, the work makes more sense and I can see the concept, its really a fabulous work, and i love how she seems to flow out of the tree
