Description
Basic gameplay of Aerodive (using the Japanese name because I don't want to sound cheesy) using Tien because reasons.Aerodive is, fundamentally, a quick-time event game. That's generally all it is--QTEs. You essentially dictate how fast the team goes through its formation flowchart by inputting commands on either your d-pad or the face buttons. Mess up, and not only do you have to wait for the team to recover and get back in formation (aided by furiously tapping the R1 button), you're also booted all the way back to the beginning of your current class. Which can be both a blessing and a curse.
Because I don't wanna screw this up, and because I'm a nub, I like to play on the easiest formation class--Class E. This is one of the formations in the E-b class, the absolute easiest formation class in the game. E-b inputs begin with a simple flow from one d-pad direction to another, and eventually end with inputs that include both the d-pad and the face buttons. They're also quite forgiving on the 'Accept' and 'Input' bars; 'Accept' indicates how long you have to respond to the prompt before you automatically fail that formation because you weren't paying attention, and 'Input' shows how long you have to successfully input the commands displayed on that prompt. Let that run out, and the formation fails.
Given that this is a skydiving game that is also Japanese in origin, yes, you are timed. The last skydiving game that was Japanese in origin just happens to be Wii Sports Resort , of all games, and even that is only a minigame. Your altimeter (as I call it--it ain't a real skydiving altimeter, I know) is on the left-hand side of the screen. Once you cross into that red zone, the match is over. (Yup. It's a skydiving rhythm battle game. Best I can describe it, sue me.) The next two screens follow.
(My actual reasons for liking Tien are that their gear is very well-rendered, at least in my eyes--even though the menu/in-game comparison is very stark when it comes to their harnesses, as it goes from anime-esque yellow riser covers to realistic black. They've also got, IMO, the most realistic formations at the E-class level, and believe me, some of the special formations in this game are definitely anime-esque.)
