Oh, yes. Photographing traditional art is such a headache, even for me as a photographer. It never is accurate.

well, it's really a draw back for me. Most of the time I just don't want to submit the work. Especially after my new camera Fujifilm Finepix x100, now I have focus problem! I've been reading about how to solve this problem and I'm getting there (hopefully) but the colors as you said are always inaccurate (oh my, the blues, my blues are so beautiful and the blues in the photo they all the same)

One thing that might help is to place your image to be photographed in bright shadow ... if the sun is coming through your window, place your painting in the shadow next to the line of sunshine. That will make colors most bright.

hmm actually I take the picture in bright shadow, as you said.
not directly in sunlight, not somewhere dark.
well, from now on I won't try to crop the image, just submit it as it is.
