Here’s all the supermodel thing together btw <3
So this was really something I wanted to make to focus on the different builds of some of our favorite characters, as I see them, and how body language can be used.
As my friend Trev pointed out, Dash’s short stature really adds to her cocksure attitude in the second image, where she still stands proud with a solid, symmetrical stance and cocked head describing power and confidence. No matter just how tall or short she actually is, it’s all in her attitude. This creates a wonderful contrast with Fluttershy’s closed body language, hiding her face with her wings, the asymmetrical stance and averted eyes. We can also plainly see the gulf between their heights and it makes the picture more visually appealing.
The third image is probably my favorite. Fluttershy is even taller with her neck fully straightened and standing on tip-hooves. Dash is really inside her personal space with her self-confidence, with just a little kicked-up leg to show a little demureness. Not completely within her character, but we can assume she’s being a massive tease (which she totally is.) Flutters is positively beet red from blushing and her ears tell us that she’s very interested in what’s happening. I plan on making a tutorial post about pony ears in body language soon, by the way.
Dash then makes a lame excure to wander away whilst Fluttershy goes weak at the knees and can’t maintain her posture. She’s wondering what all that was about, and whether she should say something.
… of course she doesn’t, she’s Fluttershy, but she sinks ot the ground happily in a lump, her legs going everywhichway whilst her mind wanders. She might just be seeing an opportunity here, if she could only just gather the courage!
So yeah, it wasn’t just an exercise in cute ponies, but a look at stature and body language in telling more in pictures than what you can manage in words. I like these character designs, theres room for a lot of fun with them.
P.s. Dash being small has nothing to do with memes! <- it seems this is a thing, I just think she's built like a gymnast!
