OK...I will admit up front that this is not going to be one of my better critiques. Here's why. As I am scrolling through your gallery front to back, so far, this is by leaps and bounds my most favorite image. I think it is far superior to what I have already seen. But...I can't really tell you why. (That's why, as a critique, this kind of sucks!) That said, let's go on to what I can put my finger on.
Again, what I dislike (and there is not a lot) first. The faces are flat. Yeah, yeah...I see the shadowing on their right side/our left and under the brows. But...they still feel flat. I don't really get that. They are shaded the same way as everything else, and nothing else strikes me as flat. POSSIBLY need another color in there other than the base flesh tone and the base flesh tone with color. I dunno. Jessie's thighs and belly look fine with the exact same palate. Second thing...your line of sight is dead on with the line of the boots touching the floor. That strikes me as almost a chicken way to get out of trying to draw perspective from a different level where you would have to make them look like their feet were in front of the "R" by putting space/floor between the two. Again, while this is something of a long paragraph, these are both very minor issues in the grand scheme of things.
What I like. Remember how I said the faces kind of look flat. Well, everything else looks great from a volume/mass/3 dimensional aspect. The bodies have good height, width and depth. Sure. It's cartoon manga. But it's GOOD cartoon manga with volume, without looking like a computer animation. That's very nice and it works well for me. The composition is nice too. While I might not like the line of sight being at the same level as where the feet touch the ground, you do an excellent job of keeping that perspective as the eye travels up, including keeping the three dimensional aspects of the "R" consistent. It would have been easy to just make that a 2 dimensional "R". Placement and pose of the figures works really well for me also. If James' right arm was down, and Jessie's left arm was up with her hand on her waist, they would be mirroring your "R", which MIGHT be cool, or might not. But what you have, definitely is. This one just works better for me on so many levels, but again, while I can point out a couple of things I like, from a technique standpoint, I can't tell you what you have done differently on this that makes it look so much better to me. But it does work, and quite beautifully. Wish I was more helpful. (Oh...the reflections on the floor in the foreground...nice touch.)
Thanks for sharing.
