A lot of comments are made about how Janet Peter-Smyth is either rude or, quite simply, a bitch. I would put it to you that if you were planning a very important meeting, while at the same time, were uncomfortably pregnant, you might be a bit testy, too. But I thought I would show you that, when not overly stressed, and if someone happens to do something that pleases her very much, you'll find out the ice queen is just a nice as anyone else.And I thought that I might show my appreciation that so many of you have taken a liking to a character of mine. Janet smiling is pretty rare, but for me to smile is even rarer, and that's been happening a lot since I started making these animations / comics, so thank you.
Okay, that's enough sentimentality and lack of pregnancies—back to planning a certain birthing scene (or two).

Everyone sees a person differently: some will find them hot, some find them unattractive; some find them scary, some find them feisty. It's fun to see how people see a character and whether or not what I think about them is universal or unique to me alone. It's all good!

As I said to others in other places, having who is normally an "ice queen" or bully to everyone with the only exception being yourself is quite a magical experience. I think this captures that feel pretty well.
And I bet these pieces are stressful and complicated but I for one really appreciate all this work you put into it even if I might not voice it for every piece.

As for it being stressful, every other piece of art (not the animations) I did before my latest two pieces was super stressful, due to Photoshop not doing what I needed it to do. But, with Clip Studio Paint, this one (and Rihanne at 3 months) was a joy. I drew it in just over an hour, and got very close to the results I wanted, whereas with Photoshop I'd be sitting in the corner of the room by now, with my head in my hands. Funny how a change of software makes all the difference! Not sure if I'll return to making comics again (might be worth a try, to see if Clip Studio makes the process more enjoyable) but I'll definitely do more illustrations in the future when the software makes it so much easier for me.
Plus, I tend to whine a lot about self-induced stress, so take what I say with a bowl of salt.

Hey, you're not whining, dude: art can be stressful, especially if the art is as good as yours. If you want to vent, feel free, we're all ears and just grateful that you're doing this for us.

Ah, please take my whining as mostly tongue in cheek. I'll moan, but I'm not at my wit's end. But I will be open if I have a genuine problem / issue to get out there, and if I do, I'll do a proper journal for it. If it's in the comments, it's probably not a huge deal. But thanks for the concern!

What a nice picture! I've never had a problem with Janet's character, outside of the fact that she's supposed to be the stereotypical overbearing boss, I've always found her assertiveness charming. As you've pointed out, most of her "rudeness" is pretty well justified by the fact that she's planning an important meeting while gaining a ton of weight and not knowing the cause. (Gee... you'd think a mother would recognize the symptoms of pregnancy.)
EDIT: Will we see any more of Janet after the birth? It's gonna be a big moment but I'll be sad to see the journey over. Is there a possibility of seeing more of her from before the birth... or better yet, her getting pregnant again somehow?

Well, denial is pretty powerful in some people. Plus, my theory is that she knows she's pregnant, but just doesn't want anyone else to bring it up with her, hence her spikiness. But that's just a theory.
Yes, Janet will absolutely appear again, and definitely pregnant. In fact, I have a flashback story idea of when she was pregnant with Ginny, and the "denial war" she had with her (now ex-)husband. That one might be a series of illustrations instead of animations, but will be good, if it comes out like I want it to! I might draw those while I'm animating other things, as a break. So many stories, so little time...

Well, she gets pregnant and is too afraid to mention it, so she decides to wait until he notices...and he finds the preg test but is too afraid to mention it, so he decides to wait until SHE mentions it...cue endless scenes of them both ignoring her growing abdomen and each of them trying to get the other to admit to the tummy first...
Something like that. Mrs. P-S would be a little more naive back then, but not so unrecognisable from who she is now.

Exactly. Kindness is weakness in a boss, so you have to have your war face on to get shit done (that said, kindness usually gets better results than fear...). And I like her too, but did realise almost all of her appearances radiate hostility / meanness. I wanted to correct that somehow.

Every artist has their own workflow. For some, they can draw or work fast, for others it takes time. It also depends on the complexity of the artwork.

I know, but my old problems were not down to habits but the software not being right for me. From now on, I can work at a speed I prefer AND get the results I want. And the slowness of my old pieces was, in hindsight, software related. Shouldn't be a problem any more!

I have, but I hated it. Over the years, multiple times, I tried to use Flash but felt like I was trying to use a household appliance without a manual and all the buttons are in a different language. Totally unintuitive program imo (the same goes for Photoshop, I guess). But, after only a few days with Wick Editor, I made more progress in making animations than I ever did with Flash.
BTW, all my old art complaints are completely to due with drawn comics / illios. The animation stuff has been much easier / enjoyable in comparison. I have a few hard moments here and there animating, but that rarely lasts more than a few minutes.

Yeah, maybe if I truly stuck with it and read the manual / tutorials, I'd have gotten better at it. But it wasn't any fun, so I didn't bother. Each to their own!
Plus, there's a tween option that Wick Editor has and Flash doesn't, which makes the animations much smoother. Then again, it's so much easier to move stuff about in Flash...no matter! What's done is done.

I've actually replaced several art files secretly, due to dislike of them. Not sure if anyone noticed, but it happens. In fact, I almost replaced this smiling image with another, subtler smile...but I suspect too many people have taken a close look at it for me to replace it without it being noticed. Not that I hate it! And I don't post because of anyone else rushing me, but because I used to rush myself. I don't do that as much as I used to, so no worries about me taking my time.
From now on though, using Clip Studio, my art complains should be fewer. Again, my whining is not serious, just me thinking out loud.
