All american measurements in this post are based on what I could google my way to, and I am in fact completely ignorant of how to calculate this shit.

Primary Information

Name / Nicks : Phorcys Tideborn. The last name isn't one he's proud of, as it is a name used for people who either don't know who their parents were (i.e. abandoned at birth/orphans), or who were born out of wedlock.

        Species / Race : Merman. Human/octopus

        Gender / Sex : Male / Male

        Age / Date of Birth : 26

        Height / Length : 2,70 metres ( approx. 8 ft 10 )

        Weight / Build : 160 kilos, and average ( approx. 352 pounds? I'm not sure )

Skin Tone : Caucasian, not exactly pale, but not tanned either.

Eye Color : Blue irises with purple sclera.

Hair Color and Style : Black, longer than shoulder length and loose most of the time. It's fairly thick, but that's often not noticed underwater. Occasionally he'll have it in a braid or a ponytail, but more often than not he'll just leave it hanging loose.

Other Physical Traits : His eyes are almond-shaped, with long lashes, and are almost always set in a slightly narrowed expression. Phorcys'  nose is fairly straight, with only a small dip between forehead and nose bridge, and is somewhat pointy. His cheekbones are very pronounced and defined. The mouth has some full lips, is slightly wider than normal, and is set with teeth that are slightly pointed at the end. His hips are pretty feminine, somewhat voluptuous, giving him a somewhat female looking silhouette. His lower body, and the tentacles in particular, make up a large part of his body and weight, being twice the length of his torso and - most of the year - a bright, eye-catching red. The colour changes in accordance with the temperature of the water. The warmer water, the brighter colour.

Psychological Traits : Pretty flexible on that whole "morality" business. On one hand, being nice is nice. On the other hand, he very much likes getting his way in things. And getting things he wants, when he wants. He's fairly prejudiced against humans, and land dwellers in general, thinking they're not much above animals and that he has to explain everything using a loud voice and small words to them.

Most of the time, he has an assertive, somewhat dominant manner of acting and speaking but it's pretty much a mask for him to wear, because he is very insecure in most things, especially emotional things. He doesn't like making a lot of noise about it, as he mentally associates being loud and demanding with pain and punishment. There is one thing that he's absolutely sure of, however: he deserves a good life, and he has the power to make it so.

Interacting with other merfolk is a comlicated thing for Phorcys. He needs to do it, as there are a lot of things he can't do for himself, but he's usually pretty standoffish or awkward when talking to people. He responds best, sadly, to loud or extremely demanding people because that's something he knows how to deal with. If he's given a compliment or spoken to nicely, he'll either stutter and kind of shut down or lash out because he's not quite sure how to tackle those situations. He's also very jaded towards other merpeople, convinced that once he's outlived his usefulness they will either push him away or hurt him in some other manner.

Once he gets to know someone, he often just becomes more awkward or shy, as the only really close friend he had was his father and it feels wrong for him to act like he did around his parent. It takes a while to make him relax, and often he can't even laugh at things he finds genuinely funny at first. He's also utterly convinced that nobody would be able to love him, so romantic advances are usually stone-walled by him, or he again starts stuttering and mentally crashing, pushing it away and thereby making his own convictions a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts.

        Abilities / Specialized Skills :

- He is learning how to transform into a human, but as this skill is far from fully learned yet, he can not use it. He'll still need to rehydrate his skin regularly, although he can take being out of water for longer than in his merman form.

- Sea magic. He can manipulate water, salt water more easily than fresh water, to a limited degree. The amount of water also affects how he can manipulate it, and he can't manipulate it if there's less than about 3 litres in a body of water. He also needs to be in contact with the water to be able to manipulate it.
He can, for example, manipulate a small amount of water to lubricate his skin if he needs it, or to momentarily blind an enemy by spraying it at high speed at their eyes.
He can also use larger bodies of water to form a shield of rapidly-moving water around him, although this is quite tiring and while the shield can deflect some weapons, a bullet might still penetrate it if it hits at the right angle.
In the sea, he can cause quite a bit of destruction, but depending on the scale, that comes at a massive cost of energy.

- Low-light vision. He can't see in absolute darkness, but he can see pretty clearly down to the upper layers of the mesopelagic (twilight) zone of the ocean. He doesn't often go there, though. The fact that his sight fails down there scares him, because he can't see much of what happens beneath him.

- Bletonomancy, which is divination by reading water currents. It's difficult, sometimes, to interpret the meaning of the currents, and since the currents can sweep you up and carry you for miles if you're not careful, it's also somewhat dangerous.

        Weaknesses / Fears :

- The sun, and heat in general. Thereby not said he dislikes warm water, he quite prefers that actually; he merely dislikes heat on land as it dries him out faster. He can not spend much more than about four hours on land, or his skin will dry out and crack. It's obviously painful, but he is also very likely to die from drying out that much. That is most certainly not something he wants to happen.

- Scared of moving about on land, if he has to. He knows he has to be quick, and that makes him both paranoid and very eager to get to water again. Most land animals also freak him out because they seem so alien to him.

-Absolute darkness. Being unable to see is one of his biggest fears.

- Electricity. He can easily get fried by it.

- The more emotionally distressed he is, the less control he has over his power.

- getting reminded of times when he wasn't quite as nasty as he is now. It forces some level of self reflection, and he's not fond of that.

        Outfit :

- One single string of pearls.

- That's it.

        Miscellaneous :

- Pansexual.

- Wierdly fond of skirts. Although he doesn't quite understand the purpose behind wearing clothes in general, he does appreciate them aesthetically.

- Doesn't understand the purpose of clothing. In the world of merfolk, covering your body is usually seen as a sign that there's something wrong with it; that you're sick or disabled in some way, so he often wrongfully thinks that humans are disabled or sick in some way.

        Background History :

Phorcys was born out of wedlock, and has no idea who his mother was, as he was abandoned for his dad to take care of. His life growing up was difficult, as the pecking order in the merpeople's world was very strict, and people like him (i.e. people who didn't have shiny scaly fish tails) were at the bottom of the hierarchy.  Young Phorcys, therefore, didn't have many people to play with as the attitudes of the parents filtered down to their kids. He spet a lot of time hanging out alone, and it was while he was alone that he discovered his talents for magic. As it turned out, the boy's magical talent was impressive - even for a magical species. His father, upon discovering Phorcys' abilities, decided to try and get his son a teacher.

He did succeed, but the prejudices the witch fostered against Phorcys' kind meant that he was treated like a lesser person, and pretty much became more of a servant than a student. He was not to show himself when the witch had guests, and he only learned a miniscule amount from his teacher. The young Phorcys, therefore, mostly studied and practiced in secret; when his master was away or asleep. This went on somewhat easily, without any major incidents, from Phorcys was seven until he was eleven. He'd started going out more, and while his master hadn't approved of it he had tolerated it until Phorcys had started to develop some feelings for the witch's young niece. She didn't return the feelings, but the sight of one of the lowest-ranking creatures in society being fond of her still made the witch fly into a rage.
He grabbed Phorcys and, once they were alone, attempted to beat the emotions out of the poor boy.
Though he begged for mercy, the beating didn't stop until he passed out, bleeding and bruised in the floor. He was left there until he woke up, and while his wounds were at least dressed and clean when he awoke, he was still expected to do the same work as he always did - which was definitely not easy for an eleven year-old, beaten boy.
Even he doesn't know how he managed, or if he managed at all. He's fairly sure he went hungry a few times, but again: he doesn't remember; the next few months passed as a blur, before he again found some kind of steady rhythm. Work all day, and then slip off somewhere after dinner to practice magic. He kept trying to better himself at the few skills he knew he had and could master. It wasn't easy, and he would often make his entire body burn with pain from the combined stress of practicing magic and working all day. It led to him being tired most of the time, but the witch didn't care about that because by now Phorcys would - when tired - be easier to control. He simply had no energy to argue.

His teen years passed without much incident. Beatings were a norm, and his master made sure to fuel his self-esteem issues whenever he could. His abilities, however, grew, and Phorcys started believing that he had nothing and nobody else to trust in but his own abilities and himself. The young sea-witch was nearing the end of his apprenticeship, and he knew that he had the skills of a master - but would probably never be recognized as such. He'd have to fight for it... After going through many, many tomes on the laws of magic, and witches, he came to a rather pleasant, but slightly macabre realization: One way to become recognized as a master witch was to defeat and kill his master in a magic duel.
It would be difficult.
Especially getting three master sea-witches to be witnesses to the duel, since it was seen as a barbaric manner of becoming a master sea-witch. He knew nobody would do him any favours, he'd have to make persuade people to come and witness the duel. Although, it was the shared responsibility of the combatants to ensure witnesses to the duel. He could do this. He knew he had the powers to it.

One day, he finally challenged his master to a duel, and a date was agreed on. Both parties were certain they would win, and managed to get a hold of three witnesses to make sure the duel was honorable. The apprentice was nervous, but he knew he could do it!
The date came, and the combatants and witnesses met. Phorcys managed to get a good first strike in on the master witch, but he himself go quite badly hurt by the next strike, which he didn't manage to get out of the way from.
The battle was short but intense, and both combatants were hurting and tired by the end of it. Phorcys, however, had gained the upper hand and was less battered than his master. He smiled as he delivered the killing blow, seeing it as revenge for the poor treatment he'd recieved over so many years.

He became officially recognized as a master sea-witch, and qualified to take on apprentices, but he only rarely did so. As he had killed his former master in a fair, honorable duel, all his property was now Phorcys', and he could spend as much time on studying as he wanted to. And study he did, trying ot improve and expand his library and skills as much as he possibly could.

This of course also included magical experiments, and it was just one such experiment that ended up transporting him to Kelacao. He was attempting to see if he could create a safe manner of teleporting from one part of his own sea to another, to speed up travelling; something which many had tried and none succeeded to do. In a way, I suppose he succeeded in teleporting. He just didn't end up in the right place but in a sea on Kelacao. The portal shut after him, and no matter how many times he tried, he could not create a portal that led back to his home world. Hell, he couldn't open a portal to anywhere anymore.

He might as well try and see if he could exploit this new world, then, he figured.

In advance sorry if this isn't as informative and awesome as your feedback ;w;

Physical- Since mentioning his tentacle's color could change; is it due to his food intake, mood, water temperature?
Kinda like flamingos eating algae to get that pink/crimson look.

Psych- Is he willing to back stab in order to get his way?Is he lucrative about it, or does he not mind making noise to get what he wants?
Since he doesn't like Heat or sun, does that mean he shys away from tropical waters? What kind of waters does he prefer in an ideal situation?
How does he handle situations with other Merfolk? Is he jaded due to the hierarchy and lonely childhood, and avoids contact?  How is his demeanor when someone /sorta/ gets to know him?

Abilities-  You know... It would be fricken great if he had friends who would just get a bathtub ready instead of a bed on land. Heh heh heh c:
If he was social >w>

Background- You're probably have the later part of his history worked out, and I'm sure that would build up his psych a lot more.
Is he considered a master, teaching an occasional apprentice? or does it keep to himself, discovering more about his abilities in solitary?

Outfit- Is there a certain outfit he wears as a human?
