A new mutant the first in Japan since Cyber-Godzilla was devastating the country. From the ground rose a tank-like beetle, rising under a hail of weapons fire from the shocked humans. Robo-Yeti arrived in an attempt to save the evacuees below. Brutally injuring the robot, Tank-Bug launched an assault, Robo-yeti, as it seemed, had fought his final battle. Tank-Bug made quick work of the soldiers close to him, and then unleashed a massive wave of fire that killed the rest of the troops. Dr. Yukiko Ifukube was nearly crushed. She recorded images of the mutant, the mutant in a brief moment of curiosity looked at the human, but before it could kill her, he was struck by a tank attacked. Enraged, it turned his attention and his weapons back towards the rest of the base, eventually destroying it, leaving no survivors.

One morning, Tank-Bug reappeared near Mt. Fuji and began to head to the base, determined to destroy everything and feed. The JSDF attacked but this proved to be a difficult task, for Tank-Bug’s Atomic fire beam was far too powerful, and it continued to eradicate the military resistance.

All seemed lost, until Guardian Unit is launched up to the surface, into the path of the beetle. The two stand opposing each other. The pilot Jennifer Ann Tatopuolus grabbed one of the beetle’s hands, and stabbed it with her Prog. Knife in the chest, then Tank-bug then grabbed her with its other hand and throws her into a nearby mountainside and blasted Guardian Unit’s chest plate, and rendered her inoperative. Inside Jen desperately tried to active the Unit to no avail, she screamed as she tried to move the robot.

Tank-Bug breaks, crashing through the wall into the control room. Just as it was about to fire and kill the entire command staff, Godzilla crashed through another wall and punched it away into one of the Guardian’s launching catapults. Godzilla pushed Tank-bug’s face against the side of the shaft, grinding it against the wall. Upon reaching the surface Tank-Bug landed on the ground with Godzilla on top of it and he was still to savagely pummel the beetle. Tank-bug threw Godzilla against the hillside, however, Unit 01 reappears making a somersaulting drop-kick against Tank-bug, shattering its face. A bolt of atomic fire stabbed into the Guardian Unit and Godzilla somersault drop-kicked the bug away.

In retaliation, Tank-Bug tried to take a swipe at the gigantic robot and then it tried to blast her, but she was able to punch it and deflected its beam, but it hit her energy cable and her robot went into internal battery function. Jen and Godzilla made rampage attacks one by one until they were able to able to push him to the edge of the crevice, but the beast blast them both. Godzilla found Jen’s lost Countersword and correctly hold it and pushed the knife into the chest of the beast. As Tank Bug was about to deliver a blow of its giant fist on Godzilla’s head Jen pushed the beetle all the way into the crevice and as it fell. Out of thinking or by instinct Godzilla drops down the Countersword and Jen uses it to slice beetle hand as it feel into the depths. Jen runs out of power, fells into the crevice, but Godzilla makes a sudden descent into the crevice in and rescues her. Godzilla pull her out and carried her way for the JSDF to drop the bombs on the crevice and apparently destroy Tank-Bug.

TRIVIA

Tank-Bug is tribute to Megalon and the Tanker-Bug from Starship Troopers. His vocalization is that of the Decepticons Blackout and Scorponok in the Transformers movie

Its attack on the base at the beginning is similar to Blackouts first appareance in the Transformers movie. And the Final battle is similar to that of Zeruel in Episode 19 of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
