The First Ancestral Race was never directly mentioned on-screen, they are mysterious, god-like progenitor aliens, who created the beings known as Seeds of Life to sow the galaxy with lifeforms such as Adam and Lilith (and many unseen others they one could just think filled life on Cybertron, Krypton, Pandora, Vulcan among others.They resemble Evangelion Units and have no visible mouth and are as tall as the Naβvi. They are the first to have a core and advance brain and created the first Spear of Longinus for their use in war to protect life on the universe form other violent races.
Their ultimate motives and aims in seeding the galaxy with life was a mystery but in here the are seen simple altruism after a ravaging war.
First Ancestral Race was active four billion years ago when they spread the Seeds of Life through the galaxy, their fate is unknown in the series, but in here have transcended to a higher level of existence.

Actually, your info's a tad wrong. The F.A.R.'s fate /is/ known, and its that they were destroyed by some unknown force. They knew their end was coming, so they created Seeds of Life and Seeds of Knowledge, splitting their biology equally between the vessels. They created a program with each of the Seeds that forbids a Seed of Life and a Seed of Knowledge existing on the same world, as this could lead to a being with both the Fruit of Life and Fruit of Knowledge, which would inevitably lead to the same disaster that killed them.

As far as the canon goes:
Their world could no longer sustain them so they put their souls into seven chambers and created seven Seeds of Life, each with one chamber.
Some seeds, like Adam, had the Fruit of Life and would make worlds of Angels, while others, like Lilith, had the Fruit of Knowledge, and would create scientific societies. Humans and Angels are the reincarnated First Ancestral Race, as are the souls of the Seeds.
I don't think that they have a known appearance.
