Description
First art in over 3 weeks π Yikes, rotations have been so busy that Iβve unfortunately been neglecting my hobbies. I need to make more time for them! This drawing is based on the WIP illustration of the T.rex by RJ Palmer for the game βSaurianβ.Related content

Looks better then the older model, but sadly that design is still inaccurate. Hope they fix it.
Great sketch BTW^^

Not according to the recent reasearch that's been done. So at this point it's weird to say for a scaley rex but it's very accurate... for now

I'm not talking about the lack of feathers.

It looks awesome, but I would've added at least a small bit of feathering and had more pronounced facial scales.

Is there any real evidences that says that T. rex had feathers?Β

The Wyrex skin impressions are coin-sized pieces on a 40-foot long animal. Β Not even elephants fully lose all their intugement, they would probably retain at least some on the fringes for display, thermoregulation etc.

Coin-sized? Lol where did you here that? Some of the impressions were twice as big as a laptop and you put them all together you'll get five feet of skin.Β

Maybe so, but on a coelurosaur with closely-feathered relatives and likely feathers as a juveniles it doesn't seem likely for it not to have feathering somewhere, even if only on the fringes of its body. They have way more usages than insulation and neither modern birds or terrestrial mammals completely lose their intugement.

True about the facial scales, but this was just a quick sketch. The feathering is still debatable, but I'll leave the decisions to the experts.Β

I know, I was just talking about the game design itself, not your artwork, which is really excellent.

In regards to game design, there's really no legitimate point in bother with sparse feathering in the same vein as an elephant, especially considering A, considering you'll only be seeing the dinosaur from a distance, you wouldn't be able to make out the follicles to begin with, and B, trying to create all those planes for sparse feathering could be a potential rendering issue. In fact, elephants in video games rarely, if ever, have any hair for this reason altogether. It's kinda pointless outside of a (rather obscure) aesthetic standpoint.

I'd at least put a little bit in certain areas (arms, the back, end of the tail, etc)

It's still rather pointless seeing as you won't be able to see them from a good 20 feet away *at least* from the model.

No, I mean like an actual coat. I'd put a really small one at least, the feathers are still useful for display.

Oi...
I honestly don't think you have an idea on how game art works at all, frankly. And that's besides the fact that Tyrannosaurus integument is currently ambiguous as frig, and people (no offense, but it seems that it includes yourself) treat it like a bloody morality issue, which is why I personally stopped caring about it altogether, at least.

Well, I just feel it's more reasonable than to completely abandon feathering, especially if it's nil. But that's my opinion.
Cool art, btw
