... I wouldn't play this game unless asked... As I would need a muffler to keep from screaming profanity in pure terror

Excellent designs, though the third one seems a little too much like a liquid

Thanks, and that was the intent.

No problem
Though now I regret my feedback if it was the intent. Makes me feel quite foolish ^ ^'

I misread that as twerk and laughed way harder than I should've.

It'd be happy with either, really.

You are doing more than one game?
Though I like this concept. Shadow Entities are some of my favorite since the game Shadow of The Colossus and my brief round about with ICO. Macabre and mysterious, they invoke a feeling which is all their own. and I like it.

Well, technically the class is several games, but no, I personally will only be working on one (unless another team requests me assistance). The individual game concepts kind of got ignored or replaced in favor of other ideas and now we're doing preliminary group projects. There's seven groups with their own concept, so they'll present them next week, vote, and narrow it down to just four that'll be made. These are for my group's current concept.

Hm. So its basically like a team game, where one group sort of loses.. and others advance. Strange. But making games isn't easy. I sure as hell don't know the first thing to making any sort of playable game. Not even an online flash. So I can see how so many games can get in the way, and narrowing it down so others can help and excel at the creation of one.

I don't see how that's like a game at all, but yes, the class throws out multiple ideas and then narrows it down to the best (or at least most popular) and only makes those. Groups are a necessity because it's a lot of work to do in a short period of time and splitting it up into jobs makes everything faster. It's also how the game industry works, there are tons and tons of people working on published games so you're never going to be working all on your lonesome. This presumably helps prepare you for that.

So does this mean you'll become a full time game engineer if this works out? That would be something. Friends with a big guy who will one day go onto be the next Miyamoto. What a grand thought.
Is your game concept popular, also? I hope so.

Ahahaha, no, not at all. These games are just for the sake of learning basic skills and having fun, they're really simple and they don't go anywhere- they're not something that would get any of us work. I can't say I have any desire to go into that field of work anymore, anyway. The more I learn about the tools involved and (especially) the industry itself, the more I'm convinced it's not the place for me.
And which game? This one? It hasn't really been shown to anyone else yet. The presentation is next week, so I don't know yet what the reception will be.

No. Like I said, the individual game ideas got swept under the rug pretty quickly. I tried pitching the idea to my group, but no one else had any interest in it and we moved on to this.

Sigh, that is the biggest bummer I heard all day. Well, as of today. Last night was just the worst, but thats last night, and this is today. I digress. Here I was looking forward to going Godzilla on an Ant Hill.

Sorry to disappoint you- but yeah, kaiju eiga is still a niche genre and most people just don't see any appeal in it. My group wasn't rude or anything like that, but it was pretty obvious right off the bat that they had zero interest in what I was talking about. It was the only concept anyone suggested that didn't get seriously considered, and I stopped pitching it by the end of our first meeting. The group's goals and interests were just too different from my own so I let them go their own direction for everyone's sake. Ya gotta make compromises when you work in a group. The current concept, this, is a psychological virtual reality game that uses the Oculus Rift.

Oculus Rift?
And I ain't that disappointment, really. I'd love to see that game come around, since it gave me that "Destroy All Humans" sort of vibe in its visual humor... but eh, some things won't be. Kinda sad to see no one appreciate kaiju, despite Pacific Rim coming along with great success and Godzilla once again stomping into our silverscreens.

It's a VR attachment for games. Big ol' visor that goes over your eyes.
And I dunno if I'd say Pacific Rim was a great success. I mean, most people in the fandom loved it, but if it wasn't for the international market it would've been a box office flop. Most people are still of the opinion that it was an extremely juvenile, unoriginal, stupid movie and I've seen it on more than a few "worst of 2013" lists. The number of people who thought it was a clever, visual stunning salute to the genre were, unfortunately, mostly outnumbered by those who thought it was "Michael Bay's Power Rangers".

...to hear that about Pacific Rim is a nice grand kick to a gut for me. Sometimes I say that some individuals are way to critical over movies and books nowadays. Sigh. Maybe Kaiju will never, ever be taken seriously, which is disheartening since I enjoy the original reason for Kaiju to exist: Nuclear Horror. No one understands that in my opinion outside of kaiju fans, and even thing I think those people don't respect nuclear horror and instead want to enjoy a "crappy, cheesey movie with people in suits" ...which is fine, I'm okay with those. But I wanna see more Godzilla 1954 movies. Dark, gritty and a true sense of someone awful that is going to take away countless lives.
and I feel I am alone when I feel like that...
I apologize for my rant.

You shouldn't take it so personally. It's deeply disappointing to me as well, but that's just the way things are- we have very specific interests and thus most people don't share them. That's not really anything new, and it shouldn't do anything to dampen our own enjoyment of the genre. There will always be movies, novels, and games that feature the subject, though, whether they're popular or not. As far as nuclear horror goes, yeah, I think most people in the "mainstream" crowd either don't know about that or just don't find it interesting. In my own experiences people have been extremely hypocritical about that (going back to that whole anti-monster bias I mentioned before), but sometimes it's just as simple as somebody gets what it's about and still is legitimately uninterested. That's just the way things go. I think the new Godzilla movie will probably have a better time of it than PR did, and hopefully we'll see some little changes ripple out as a result.

I really hope we do. This movie that is coming up... Its getting a reputation for being very serious in its horror. like 9/11... and yes, I do believe "I want it serious like 9/11, in the sense it will make your hairs stand up" was used by Garreth....... If I got that wrong, my bad.
But that said, I pray oh to god it is serious. The idea of a monster being serious like Godzilla just makes me happy. Please god in heaven above, let it be so.

I do worry about peoples reaction. I expect "what the hell is this? godzilla isnt serious, Godzilla is funny! its a stupid japanese movie with bad dubbing.." and other such feedback to the movie.
