Description 2016 Update: Oh, I'm sorry, did I say "not any time soon"? My mistake, I meant there's a TON of new WOTM2 stuff on the way.

I can't make any kind of promises as far as how long it'll take to complete things, especially with the holidays coming up, but here's the plan:

*Eight new levels, updates to all of the old levels, new items, a completely rehauled story mode, and character endings.
*Five bosses (most of which are new) with illustrations and descriptions.
*Eight new monsters: Dualag, Cragoth, Karkaros, Vimoor, Rabdis, Denedrah, Melkeor, and Morcogg!
*A fifth skin for every monster- starting here with the originals!

I went ahead and spruced up a few pre-existing skins while I was at it. You can still view the original version here: sta.sh/01p7v00c5h9x

----

Alright, part one of my WOTM2 roster is finally done- and just in time for New Years Eve, too!

As a little bit of a disclaimer, I know fans of the game were attached to certain skins, and in my efforts to update the old monsters and keep things fresh some of those skins have probably been replaced. My first bit of advice would be not to fret too much since, you know, this is just made-up fan stuff and I have no influence whatsoever on what'd go into a real War of the Monsters 2.   Secondly, as an explanation for what I imagine will be the two most-missed skins: the "Creature from the Black Lagoon" skin for Kineticlops is gone because I'll be making it into it's own character (Amphibios), and the "Mecha Sweet Tooth" skin for Agamo is gone because War of the Monsters and Twisted Metal are no longer made by the same company*.

*Incognito Entertainment split into LightBox Interactive (Starhawk) and Eat Sleep Play (Twisted Metal).

Overview:

New monsters:

PS, skins would have different colored attacks and new roars now (where applicable). Example: Kineticlops' second skin has green lightning and Ultra V's fourth skin has a female voice.

------------------------------

"Unbeknownst to the human race, the crashing saucer that had brought Cerebulon to his doom had also blanketed the atmosphere with leaking alien fuel. With the extraterrestrial mutagen now airborne, chaos broke loose in every corner of the globe: the monsters, long thought to be dead, now revived with even greater strength than before."

CONGAR. After his defeat during the first War of the Monsters, Congar was captured by military forces and reclaimed by the United States government. Too weak to fight back, the once-mighty monster was shackled, sedated, and brought back to a remote government base to be studied. For a time the giant ape was completely at man's mercy... then the alien fumes found him. Supercharged by the same cosmic energies that'd created him, Congar broke free of his constraints, destroyed the base, and escaped into an unsuspecting world with more power and rage than ever before...
Updates:
*Congar has a slight resistance to electric attacks and doesn't take as much damage from generators and powerlines.
*Congar is weak to fire and takes increased damage from being burned.

TOGERA. Fatally wounded from the battle at Gambler's Gulch, Togera instinctually returned to the sea. With one final roar, she collapsed into the surf and disappeared; crowds gathered and cheered along the coast, and all across the world the news rang clear: "Togera is dead! Togera is dead!" Then the fumes came down. Inevitably making their way into the water, the alien mutagens found her body and revitalized it. Bursting from the waves with new-found power, Togera set off to wreak her terrible vengeance...
Updates:
*Togera has a resistance to heat and takes reduced damage from fire attacks.
*Togera is weak to electrical attacks and takes increased damage from being shocked.
*Togera's movement speed is not slowed down by deep water.

KINETICLOPS. "Destroyed" by the Atomic Island meltdown, the Kineticlops horde was reduced to its most basic state of existence after the first War of the Monsters. Little more than sentient sparks, they scattered across the country through circuits and powerlines, tiny, harmless, and unseen. Then the mutagen started spreading; the sparks were drawn to it like moths to a flame. Converging on the same contaminated power plant all at once, they caused a massive power surge that fused them together, forming a new, singular Kineticlops.
Updates:
*If Kineticlops comes into contact with water, any monsters already standing in it will be shocked.
*Kineticlops cannot be harmed by electrical attacks and is thus immune to generators and powerlines.

ROBO-47. Though one of the War's most destructive monsters, the Atomic Era mech Robo-47 was eventually defeated and reclaimed by its American creators. Deactivated and disassembled, its individual parts were separated and shipped to high-security bases all across the US. Until a means to control it could be established, the robot would remain in disarray indefinitely... or so the military had hoped. Bathed in alien radiation by the cloud of leaking fuel, every cog, gear, and bolt took on a life of its own. Gathering together at the site of their old bunker, they began to reassemble themselves... and piece by piece, the dreaded weapon Robo-47 returned to power.
Updates:
*Robo-47 takes full damage from electrical attacks, but also absorbs their charge. Being electrocuted gives him energy at the cost of health.

ULTRA V. After its defeat in Tsunopolis, the Ultra V retreated with grievous wounds and collapsed into the surf. Leaking alien fuel through a hole in its hull, it contaminated the entire area, poisoning and mutating sea life for weeks after its demise. In the wake of the ecological disaster, the Japanese government reclaimed the lifeless mech and reverted it to its original state. They implemented a new control system that mimicked the movements of a human pilot, making it impossible to operate on its own. Unfortunately, its new campaign of repairing and defending cities was short lived. Bathed in the falling fuel of Cerebulon's ship, the "mindless" machine began resisting control and ejected its pilot. Marching back to Tsunopolis, Ultra V had War on its mind...
Updates:
*Ultra V is weak to electrical attacks, but instead of taking extra damage, he loses energy from being shocked.

AGAMO. Victorious over his molten nemesis, Magmo, Agamo's triumph was short lived. Beaten down by another monster, the raging inferno inside him was extinguished and his mighty form crumbled to pieces. Reduced to mere rubble, the fractured idol laid dormant on a tropical beach, nothing more than a tourist attraction. The humans came and went, posing for photos in front of his giant stone head, chipping off pieces of his body for souvenirs and covering him with graffiti. Little did they know that one day the same force that'd brought him to life would pull him back together, and that when it did, he'd remember every single one of them...
Updates:
*Agamo has a resistance to heat and takes reduced damage from fire attacks.
*Agamo has a slight weakness to cold-based attacks and takes increased damage from being frozen.

MAGMO. Defeated by his fiery rival, Agamo, Magmo melted down and slithered back to the caldera, nothing but molten rock. Powerless to reform his giant body, he spent the time between Wars oozing through the Earth's crust, setting off volcanic eruptions all across the globe. When the second wave of alien fuel finally descended, Magmo was more than happy to burst from the ground and take shape again. Setting fire to everything in his path, he set off in search of his most hated foe...
Updates:
*Magmo is immune to heat-based attacks and does not take damage from being set on fire.
*Magmo's molten body is dangerous to touch. If a monster grabs Magmo, they will slowly lose health from holding him. When he struggles, it makes their health go down faster (instead of reducing their energy).
*Magmo is very weak to cold-based attacks and takes heavy damage from being frozen.

PREYTOR. With her speed and predatory cunning, Preytor was one of the very last monsters to fall in the War. Eventually brought down by a combination of fighter planes and monster attacks, she plummeted into the streets of Metro City and burned to cinders. It was a victory celebrated around the globe: finally, a monster had not only been defeated, but utterly, permanently destroyed with no chance of its return. Unfortunately for mankind, she was not the last of her kind. Hatching from an egg hidden in the debris, the daughter of the original Preytor emerged, and just in time to absorb the falling radiation from Cerebulon's ship...
Updates:
*Preytor has a high resistance to cold-based attacks and takes reduced damage from being frozen, but also loses energy from it.
*Preytor is slightly weak to fire and takes increased damage from being burned.

RAPTROS. Unprepared for the fury of the modern world, Raptros was beaten within an inch of his life, forced to retreat and slink into the shadows. Biding his time through the "peace" between Wars, he sustained himself on human prey and the volcanic heat generated by Magmo's eruptions. When the alien fuel finally fell across the Earth he had already grown larger, stronger, and fiercer. With his recovery complete and then some, Raptros spread his wings and burned everything around him, setting off to dominate the world of man.
Updates:
*Raptros has only a slight resistance to fire, but draws strength from heat. He takes reduced damage from being burned and gains energy from it.
*Raptros is weak to cold-based attacks and takes increased damage from being frozen.

ZORGULON. Left behind when the alien armada was defeated, Zorgulon found himself stranded on the primitive Terran world the humans called "Earth". Gradually adapting to its atmosphere, he went into hiding, scavenging technology and rebuilding a small fleet of UFOs to serve as his minions. In time he would gather more parts, furthering his goal to construct a tachyon beacon and call his people back for another invasion... but first, he would have to deal with the monsters of Earth.
Updates:
*Zorgulon has no strengths or weaknesses.
*UFOs will not shoot at Zorgulon.

WHOA! I-It's here! The long-awaited costume concepts and origins I have long anticipated from you, and they've arrived! I shall begin by saying I love all of the costumes and origins you've come up with. They're very intuitive in my opinion. I definitely sound like I'm fanboying, but who wouldn't? Also I would like to make some comments:

Congar:

I think his new looks suit him. His battle-worn appearance hints at his origin and his cuffs are very reminiscent of his beta form. I also love the techno green colour scheme rocking the third costume; the original felt more zombie-like if anything so I feel that it's an improvement.

Togera:

Ooh, I see what ya did with the costumes! The 2nd is a reference to MechaGodzilla and the 3rd is Anguirus! That's neat! I see the good oil' demon Togey is reappearing too.

Just wondering; is the weakness to electricity a reference to Godzilla also? I heard Godzilla has a weakness against electricity. Well, somebody's gotta.

Kineticlops:

I like the skeletal looks (e.g. The "rib cage") and the 3rd costume especially looks badass. It's like an evil doppelgänger!

Robo-47:

The second costume bears some similarities to Crimson Typhoon, hehe. I'm also digging the forth costume with the alternative eye.

Ultra V:

The second costume is a much bigger improvement over the last one, in my opinion. It just looks so much cooler (and I get the vibe he'd be a minion of Ultra-V's rival).

Agamo:

You know, those green flames actually look very fitting! Just like when his flames turned green when the UFO fuel was poured into his head. I didn't expect the Halloween-themed golem and certainly not the Snowman! Funnily enough I was thinking his forth costume would be the "polar" opposite of Magmo (no pun intended!) I mean, imagine a giant ice golem with flames so cold, they burn.

Also, 2 things:

1) Freeze attacks? Oooh, foreshadowing? >:3

2) Is it intentional that the forth costume is a Snowman when he's weak against freeze attacks?

Magmo:

I don't know what it is about the way you drawn him but it looks badass! I also like how you merged the second and third costume together to get the best effect. And the forth is so badass! It has a radioactive vibe to it.

Preytor:

A new Preytor, eh? It reminds me of one of those horror movie where ONE of x things survive, thus leaving a cliffhanger. Nice job! I can't say much for the pink preying mantis really; is it based off the flower mantis? Also the Shrimp/Crayfish is very fitting! It makes a nice Ebirah/Onibaba reference. It also looks like a nice replacement for Kineticlops' forth costume (Personally I think the game needs more aquatic monsters, like Cethalon for instance).

Raptros:

I like this new, buffed-up Rappy! Shows the radioactive fuel had a tole upon his physique. The second is very reminiscent of an ice dragon and I'm dying for this new third costume to be used. It's so intuitive!

On the topic of an ice-themed dragon I'd love to see blue flames to offer diversity amongst the costumes.

Zorgulon:

Zorgulon was never really my favourite but I love the redesign you gave him. I noticed he doesn't have a helmet anymore; is this due to adapting to Earth's atmosphere? The second costume reminds me of... Something, I can't quite put my finger on it. Good job on the third; looks very plant-like and reminds me of the third and forth originals combined. The forth... Genius. Pure genius.

Well, thanks very much for the kind words and large comment! I'll try to address your points and questions the best I can:

Congar: I'm glad you picked up on that! The shackles are also a reference to the 1933 King Kong, and the scars likewise the 2005 version. I tried to redesign the cyborg skin to have a grizzlier, more techno-horror look to recall the creations of Dr. Frankenstein, as a nod to the unproduced Kong movies where the big guy got brought back to life and fought patchwork horrors like Prometheus and The Ginko.

Togera: Anguirus was definitely the first monster on my mind, but the third Togera skin is also meant to be a typical Showa-era kaiju in general. Dinosaur based, dull earthy colors, no fancy bells and whistles, etc. The weakness to electricity is indeed a nod to Godzilla: it's not a weakness he's had consistently, but then again with so many movies and directors there aren't a lot of things that -are- consistent with Godzilla.

Kineticlops: I actually toned the skeletal stuff down a lot, simply because I couldn't get it to look as good as I was hoping. As I'm sure you know though, Kineticlops has that appearance in almost all the concept art: he's got ribs, a pelvis, a spinal cord, etc. He has a really creepy, skeletal look in those drawings, and I'd like to think that with the buffed up hardware of the PS4 we could see a design closer to that in the sequel.

Robo-47: The similarity to Crimson Typhoon was a happy accident!

Ultra-V: Glad you like the new one. Ultra's skins are easily the ones I changed least, though: I just switched the evil one from navy blue to black, and rearranged the colors that were already there on the third skin to reference Getter Robo. Initially I wanted to give that skin an energy-axe instead of a sword, but there wasn't really space for it.

Agamo: Exactly what I was thinking. And yes, foreshadowing indeed! The snowman thing is a bit awkward- I considered giving certain skins altered strengths/weaknesses, but I'm not sure how well that'd all balance out. Maybe it's just something wacky... like the evil snowman from Earthworm Jim who breathed fire and lived in Hell.

Magmo: Oh, I'm glad to hear it- Magmo really gave me a hard time! He's got a small head with a lot of details on it, and his physique in-game is so different from the concept art. Nailing down a design that was immediately recognizable as him was a lot more difficult than I'd anticipated.

Preytor: The pink skin is indeed modeled after real flower-mimicking mantids, like the orchid mantis. I figured pink would add more variety to the roster than another gray robot, and some of the female players might take to it. The fourth skin is specifically a Mantis Shrimp. I actually just made up a color scheme using some of the colors on the real thing (some of them are VERY colorful so I had to simplify it a lot), but holy cow you're right, it does work as an Onibaba reference!

Raptros: I tried not to change him too much, but yeah, I felt like he needed just a little bit of an upgrade. The wings I gave him aren't really built for bashing things in, but if nothing else I thought they looked more convincing than his little stick wings from the game. The thicker legs and tail just came naturally from the build... I always admired how Raptros is sort of the modern dinosaur while Togera is the oldschool one, having a horizontal posture and bird-like traits. I was thinking blue flames for the second skin as well.

Zorgulon: I think that was the case for a lot of players. Zorgulon was just a really underwhelming character- lots of potential to be cool, but I don't think he lived up to it; definitely my least favorite character to play as. I hope he gets a re-haul in the potential sequel, he deserves to be on the same level as the other monsters! You are correct that the helmet is gone due to him adapting to Earth's atmosphere (I didn't usually notice it in-game anyway, so I figured it wasn't a huge change to make). His second skin was always blue, but I modified the colors to reference the Metaluna Mutant from This Island Earth.

I like the generic Dino attribute to Togera's 3rd costume and, in my opinion, I think it almost looks canon!

Ah yes, the Kineticlops concept art. He actually looked very organic but oddly enough I don't find him creepy. Maybe because I'm so attached to him. In fact nothing with a single eye creeps me out anymore. I just think of him as an organic version of Atlas from Portal 2... *cough*WENEEDANATLASCOSTUME*cough*

Robo-47's third costume actually looks very nice. As in, it just FITS.

Fire-breathing snowmen? I'm thinking of the snowman from clay fighters now.

I think Preytor's third skin will indeed be a pull factor for female gamers. That and, well kaiju are called strange beast for a reason. I always thought the mecha mantis costume was weird and unfitting. I can just imagine Preytor will be easy to find in the battlefield nao. :3

I also noticed Raptros' wings have less holes too; regenerative effects from the fuel? Regardless I think I like this new Raptros. He looks more intimidating and he reminds me of a Rodan/Anguirus sidekick-thing for Togera. That'd actually be a nice implementation.

By the way, I do hope the next one has some form of customisation. Not like a full-on monster creator but at least a costume editor, choosing preset monsters as archetypes and creating wild costumes from parts given to you. Adding tails, visual fx and roars would be so sweet. Also, you know those mesh lines that would appear on the environment to help see through objects? That gave me the idea of an actual map editor. I mean, you know, grid-based editing for urban environments. Then again it might not work; there's only so much that can be done we giant monsters. I'd love to make an assault course though, hehe.

I see a lot of my old favorites and it makes me grin . I'm also digging a lot of the subtle references to other monster movie homages that the character's match and how they've managed to come back for another go after the events of the first game. Showing some nice continuity there. While a lot of the new differences between the monsters concerning energy, resistances, and weaknesses are very cool, I think I see a minor issue. One that bothered me a little in Pipeworks Godzilla games. In that you have monsters that have a weakness to cold but not many monsters capable of actually inflicting it or if they do, it's a rare/finishing move they can perform only once in awhile. I'm hoping that one of the new monsters is a major cold dealer. Other than that, the collection so far is AWESOME and I'd love to play a new WOTM with these changes.

I'm glad you like it, that was one I wasn't so sure about. I went through several options (a manticore or chimera, a winged, feathered Deinonychus, a steampunk dragon, and a Jabberwock) before going with that one, and even then I wasn't terribly confident. I get the feeling most people won't recognize what it is.

Just wondering, but what exactly are the 3rd Agamo, Raptros, and Zorgulon skins and each of the of the 4th costumes (excluding the devil Togera and female Ultra V) supposed to be?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Agamo 3: evil Jack-O-Lantern (think headless horseman, but with a pumpkin taking over a stone body)
Raptros 3: evil war mount (like the Fell Beasts from LOTR)
Zorgulon 3: a more insectoid version (just a common trope in sci-fi, like the Zerg, Tyrannids, and Prawns)

Congar 4: reference to Robot Monster (1953)
Kineticlops 4: reference to The Crawling Eye (1958)
Robo-47 4: reference to the Cylons from Battlestar Galactica (the 1978 version)
Agamo 4: evil snowman
Magmo 4: atomic skeleton
Preytor 4: Mantis Shrimp
Raptros 4: Jersey Devil
Zorgulon 4: reference to the Tripods from War of the Worlds (the green/red/blue lights are a nod to the Martian's telescopes and eyes in the 1953 version)

Oh, that would be nice, but I'll openly admit that I suck at making environments. If I drew them they'd look pretty bad! I might do bosses, though- I guess it'll depend on how busy I am after the new monsters are done.
