Shigeru: Zilla is in the remains of Monster Island, Anguirus is in Australia, Titanosaurus is in the Laurentian Abyss, and Kumonga is in Africa.
Maya: Kamacuras is in the Amazon Rainforest, Gorosaurus is on Mondo Island, Rodan is in the Arctic Circle, and King Caesar is in Okinawa.
Robin: So there's only 12 Kaiju left on Earth now, and they've all scattered.

Ritsuko gives a worried look and shows the monitor of the entry plug. Shinji is absent, but his clothes are present.

Ritsuko: Its quite possible, he actually fused with Unit-01 during the battle during the angel.
She takes Mitch to Unit-01, which is covered in bandages.
Mitch: Apologies if I sound stupid, why does he look like a mummy?

Ritsuko: Commander Ikari has ordered Unit-01 quarantined.
Mitch: I can see why.

Meanwhile, Kaji, Fuyutsuki, and Gendo are discussing the recent incident.
Kaji: SEELE is not going to take this matter very lightly. Since Unit-01 has taken the S2 engine, it can now run for longer than five minutes and no longer needs an umbilical cable. It truly is a god now.

As weeks pass, the others try to bring Shinji back

They do so. LCL spills out, as do Shinji clothes.

Ritsuko: We're still working on it.
Back in the EVA.
Voice: Shinji-kun.

She smiles.

Pure Rei: I can sense Ikari.

Shinji later wakes up to Mitch.
Mitch: Shinji Ikari. In all of my years fighting, I have never seen anything like that.

After taking Shinji home to rest, Mitch is greeted by Fuyutsuki.
Mitch: Vice Commander Fuyutsuki.
Fuyutsuki: Do you know how to play shogi?
Mitch: I only know the basics.
They play shogi.
Fuyutsuki: You lose in 31 moves.

Fuyutsuki: I just needed an excuse to talk to you.

Fuyutsuki: Do you know of the Human Instrumentality Project?
Mitch: No... why?
Fuyutsuki: It's one of many things you don't know about NERV. Yui Ayanami married Gendo Ikari and aided him in the Evangelion project. She conducted a "direct entry" experiment on Eva-01's core and is now the unit's control system.
Mitch: That's why she disappeared?
Fuyutsuki: Correct. And SEELE is plotting the Human Instrumentality Project, to unify mankind as one soul. Ikari is aiding the project, in hopes of reuniting with Yui.
Mitch: My God...
Mitch goes home to ponder what he just heard while smoking. Meanwhile, Misato is spending the night with Kaji.

He gives her a small device.
Misato: What's this?
Kaji: It's for you. My first gift to you in eight years... and possibly my last.
