Description
Jed looked up from the latest signature, and handed the drawing over to an eager fan.
“Aw, thanks, man!” The young man said as he turned away, the last one in line at the moment. Jed looked at his watch: it was nearly Noon, and fatigue from the travel and convention set in. The Fan put the drawing in his bag, got out his smart phone, and took a picture of the nearly nude and very stunning back of Sophia, dressed as Jed’s character Fisticuff. Well, Fisticuff as a jungle girl, in a barely decent sling swimsuit. The crowd around Sophia was large and active. Sophia seemed to be reveling in the attention. Jed brought his sketchpad back closer, and resumed his quick character studies of the shapely and muscular model.
“I see why you are so popular. You’re a fine artist!” said June, Sophia’s friend and so-called bodyguard. He was standing next to him, and admiring the sketches.
“Thanks! It’s easy when I have a good model to work from!” Jed replied. Jed felt a rumble from his stomach. He had very little to eat as he dashed to the convention center from the airport, and now he was hungry. He reached down and pulled up a small desk sign out of his bag. ‘Out to Lunch!. Back at 1 PM’ it read.
Jed stood up to stretch. The crowd was heavy, but had thinned considerably while the conventioneers and staff sought some food. There was still a gaggle of admirers around Sophia, though. “This is a good time to get a break, how about you?” Jed said to June.
“Yeah, sure, once we get Sophia away from her fans!” June responded. June put his fingers up to his lips, and let out a quick whistle. Everyone around Sophia, including her, turned abruptly.
“Sorry, folks, but we are going to take our lunch break now!” June stated clearly. Several fans groaned, and Sophia made a silly frown. “We will be back in an hour. Please enjoy your lunch!” June was polite, but all business. A man of his size and gravitas didn’t lose many arguments.
Sophia bent over to collect the donations from the bear-skin rug’s mouth. For the umpteenth time that morning, Jed let out an involuntary sigh at the sight of her derriere waving in the air. June went over to help, and picked up the rug. “Wow! $230 in donations! Not bad!” Sophia was smiling as she came up to the table. She folded the bills, and put them in her bag, and reached for a robe and hi-heeled slippers. She also pulled open a cooler, stocked with a variety of healthy food items. Jed noticed that Sophia ate and drank a lot, and at very frequent intervals. He thought about asking about her diet, but remembered that women can often be sensitive about that, so he took another approach. “Wow, you’re so fit, Sophia! I bet you need a lot of calories to keep up the exercise regimen.”
“Oh, man, you don’t know! 2-3000 calories a day when I lift and work at the club.” Sophia said. “It’s almost too much work, but then I have this to show for it!” She put her robe down and gave a double bicep pose the stunned Jed.
“You guys going to get a bite?” Sophia asked.
“Um, yeah, how about you? Wanna come along?” Jed asked, somewhat expectantly.
“I’ll stay here, thanks. I bet there is nothing healthy over at the concessions. I brought my own.” she replied, pulling out a plastic container with chicken, broccoli, and quinoa. She also had a mix of some kind of powder and a shaker full of milk. “I’ll mind the store. See you in a bit!” she sang. Jed and June headed off.
She sat down at the table, and began to open the food packages she prepared at home. That’s when she got a glimpse of Jed’s sketchbook under a few other papers. “Oh, wow!!!” she exclaimed, thumbing through Jed’s work from the morning.
---
Jed came back by himself. After he and June had lunch and a nice conversation about professional football, June decided to take a walk. Jed sipped at his cola, and saw a commotion at his booth. Sophia seemed to be in a heated argument with three people, one of them the head of the DC delegation.
“Oh, that’s such bullfeathers! Has anyone complained?” Sophia blurted out, pointing at one of the others. “Show me the rules!”
“Just a minute, we are bringing them to you, since you obviously seem to be ignorant of them!” a burly man with glasses and a graying beard said. Graybeard and another woman had staff badges on.
Jed walked up to the DC rep. “What’s going on?”
The beleaguered DC staffer looked with tired eyes at Jed. “The convention staff are questioning the appropriateness of your model’s outfit, and how it relates to the fundraising she is doing.”
“Let her be! I happen to like it!” Jed winked at Graybeard. The DC staffer smirked. “So does everyone else!”
Another Convention Staffer arrived with the application and rules for cosplay models, signed by the DC staff. Graybeard was quick to show everyone that models would show proper discretion, and not have excessively revealing outfits.
“I deem your outfit to be excessively revealing! There are children here!” Graybeard sniffed, over his reading glasses. “You need to tone down the outfit, or I will ask you to leave.”
“What!?!” Sophia hollered back. “You have vendors selling every imaginable violent shooter game, full of all kinds of sex and gore and all that, and you are worried about my outfit? I don’t see you warning any of them!”
Jed laughed a bit. “She’s got you there!”
Graybeard huffed a bit, but would not back down. “She either covers up or leaves!” He said, pointing to the DC rep.
Dismayed, the DC rep turned to Sophia. “I’m afraid we have to honor the contract. You’ll have to change.”
By now, a small crowd had gathered. The crowd, mostly men, all hissed and booed at the news, and shouted at Graybeard. Graybeard turned his nose up, called his assistant, and strode out with an imperious posture. Sophia sat back down, a scowl on her face.
“Shew, I like this outfit! I worked hard on it!” she mumbled.
June had returned, and caught the end of the debate. “Sorry, girl!” he said, stroking her back. “Hey, why don’t you wear it on shift tonight? You’ll have them howling for more!”
“Yeah, I suppose I could. It certainly is sexy enough for the Club.” Sophia looked inside her roll-on bag, with a twinkle in her eyes. “No matter, I planned for this, just in case!” June and Jed looked at each other. They both realized Sophia was not only a willful woman, but very smart, and not one to be deterred. “I’m going up to the ‘VIP’ room to change. See you soon!” She said, drawing her robe tight. She put her sandals on, and strode off. Jed watched her walk: it was a study in feminine sensuality, strength, and grace as she moved. Her trip was interrupted by another character, a stunning, buxom blond woman in the DC section dressed as Supergirl. They chatted amicably for a moment. Supergirl handed Sophia a business card, and Sophia smiled, and walked off.
---
About 30 minutes later, Jed’s attention was drawn away from an insufferable man who seemed to know everything about the Batman Universe, and was sharing it all with anyone who would listen. A group of fans, many with their cameras drawn, were gathered around someone who was approaching Jed. Jed couldn’t see over the crowd, but June could.
“Oh, you’re going to like this!” June said with a grin, as the crowd parted, to reveal Sophia in a stunning, if a bit minimal, regular Fisticuff costume. She put her hands on her hips saucily, and looked coolly at Jed.
“How’s this, Jed?” She raised one arm, and twirled. It was almost the exact outfit Fisticuff wears, save a very high hipline on the skin-tight shorts, and some very exposed cleavage on the top.
“Ha-ha, Treasure, you look great!” Jed laughed. “Here, June, can you get a picture of the two of us?” Jed handed his smart phone to June and stepped around the table. He stood next to Sophia, but she wanted it to be a little more interesting. She put Jed in a headlock just as June snapped the picture!
Sophia spent the rest of the afternoon posing, and to raise more money for the halfway home, she would challenge fans to feats of strength. Few could match her in arm wrestling or situps. “Whew!” she uttered, having just bested another fan in pushups. She folded the donation and put it in her bag. “I’m getting a pretty good workout in, too. I’ve challenged those two to a couch-potato-nerd foot race!” She pointed her right thumb at two pimply faced and flabby college age men. “I have to race those two to the third floor and back. The challenge is I have to use the stairs, and they have to use the elevators. More easy money for the Home!”
As Sophia scampered off with the two men to the stair and elevator shaft, Jed looked at June. “Pardon my saying this, but she looks kind of big to be sprinting up stairs.”
June smiled. “Hmph, just watch, my friend! She was All-State in soccer!”
Sophia quickly bolted ahead, weaving skillfully around patrons and displays. The two men were having trouble keeping pace. When they got to the elevator, Sophia had already started up the stairs, a blur of spandex and fuscia hair. At the top landing, she put her hands on her hips and waited for the lift, barely even breathing hard. When the door opened, she stuck her tongue out at the two men, and then sprung off again. She vaulted over the handrails, oblivious to the exposed drop, and came down even faster than she went up. When the two men finally arrived at Jed’s table, Sophia was waiting, holding up the head of the bear rug, so they could sheepishly deposit their donation money. There were more cheers from the onlookers, as Sophia bowed.
Sophia sighed and plopped down in the chair next to Jed. The seat barely contained her ample and muscular buttocks, hips, and thighs. She shuffled her chair closer to Jed, so that their legs and shoulders were touching. Jed was surprised, and a bit flustered by the move. He tried to stay focused on the fans, and not look at Sophia’s exposed skin and cleavage.
Sophia quickly pulled out Jed’s sketchpad, and began to leaf through the drawings. Jed raised a hand, but decided to not protest. Sophia commented on each, usually offering some sort of praise, or an occasional grunt or criticism. Finally, she stopped on one full length sketch of her back side.
“So, Jed, does this sketch make me look fat?” She held up the sketch for others to see. Jed blushed a bit. “Damn, man, look at the size of that ‘donk!. I know I’m a big Mediterranean breeder, but really, am I that big to you?” The crowd laughed.
Jed hesitated for a moment. He knew this was a loaded question. She indeed had those luscious curves, the kind that would make R. Crumb salivate. He couldn’t say it though.
“Well, Miss Treasure, you know my drawing style tends to exaggerate the feminine form!” This got a big smile from Sophia, and she gave him a hug and a wet peck on the cheek. Jed would have to wipe off the hot pink lipstick later. For now, he left it on.
When Sophia went back out, June gave Jed a thumbs up.
---
The next morning, Jed felt a bit brighter. He declined the many offers to go party, or hit Golddiggers Saloon, where Sophia danced. Jed thought it would be unseemly to visit Sophia in her other work, and would rather have the memories of her from the convention instead. Instead, he had dinner with a few of the DC artists, and turned in early.
Sophia and June came in bright and early. She rather skipped in, and already had her costume on from the afternoon before.
“Hi, Jed, I have something for you!” Sophia’s eyes twinkled, as she opened her bag and pulled out a large envelope. “When I left for the day yesterday, I met some of the other cosplay artists, and we had a professional photoshoot at a penthouse apartment nearby. This is for you - my treat!”
Jed opened the envelope, and stared at an image of Sophia, standing in a pose that suggested she was about to spin about and clobber an opponent. Her figure was reflected on the tinted glass of the penthouse. It was a stunning and beautiful composition.
“Wow! I love it! You look great. What a picture!” Jed exclaimed.
“I’m glad you like it! The apartment was soooo nice! The owner and photographer had several of us there for pictures, and cocktails with hors d’ouevres. It was a fun party. You should have seen all of the costumes. Yaya was there in her finest, and Alyssa over there was in her Supergirl. I couldn’t stay, though, ‘cause I have my other job.”
She came around behind Jed, and took his Sharpie. She leaned over his shoulder, pressing her breasts against his cheek. Jed was flummoxed by the press of her body, and her soft, flowery scent. She flipped the picture over and discreetly signed: “Jed, I’ll do your booth anytime! XOXO - Sophia!” Then she kissed the back of the picture, leaving a lipstick print, before giving Jed a kiss on his cheek again.
“I was messing with you yesterday.” She said. “Those sketches of me are brilliant! Thanks for the appreciation, and thanks for being a gentleman!” She stood back up, and ran her hand along his back. This sent a tingling down Jed’s back. She then went out to greet the morning crowd.
Jed touched his cheek, smiling, and wondering how he would, or even should, explain this to his wife.
